Background and Identification
The Huawei Mate is a series of Android smartphones or more specifically phablet smartphones produced by Huawei, a Chinese multinational electronics company. The series was originally called the Huawei Ascend Mate series based on the first three phones in the line. In 2016 Huawei partnered with the German Manufacturer Leica whose lenses they now use in the Huawei Mate series.
The first phablet in the series was Huawei Ascend Mate. It was announced at CES in 2013 and subsequently released in China in February of the same year and internationally in March. It had a 6.1" display with 720x1280 pixel resolution, a 1 or 2 GB RAM and 4050 mAH battery. The following year, the successor to the Huawei Ascend Mate was released, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G along with the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. It wasn’t until 2015 that the name changed and the Huawei Mate S was announced.
