Background
The HICO-ULTRASONAT 810 is an ultrasonic nebulizer. It is a device that reduces liquid water or medicine to the smallest particles, in mist form, for inhalation. The device is primarily used for health care treatments such as pre- and post-surgery and intensive care at hospitals, nursing homes, and home care. It can also be used for therapy and allergy diagnostic tests.
The device is manufactured in Germany by Hirtz & Co. KG, based in Cologne, Germany. Hirtz & Co. KG provides medical products under the brand name Hico Medical Systems. The device is distributed mostly in Europe, but it is also distributed internationally.
The HICO-ULTRASONAT 810 has a high-performance reputation and is praised for its easy-to-use design and its capability to be used in many respiratory treatments. It weighs approximately 4.5 kgs, and the weight can offer stability for the load. The HICO-ULTRASONAT 810 can operate with a maximum frequency of 1.7MHz and an output power of approximately 21. The smallest particle that is converted ranges in size approximately from 0.5 to 6µm. There is a transducer that automatically calibrates. The nebulization chamber can fit a large volume, and at least 600 ml of liquid can be nebulized for up to 3 to 4 hours without refills or up to 8 hours at a lower power. The air filter can filter out bacteria. A heating system accessory can be built into a patient hose that can heat mist forms.
Safety features are also built into the unit. There are sensors that monitor the level of water in the nebulizing chamber and would also display alerts in case of errors or malfunction. There is electronic idle protection which can shut the device off if there is an overflow of liquid. A digital timer can also set a time to switch off the device automatically.
There have been no manufacturer recalls, but there are minor errors users can face when using the device. The transducer is often mentioned as the cause of errors, and it may need to be replaced when no mist forms and when the yellow error light does not shut off. The filter can also get clogged and would need replacement.
No actual release date was provided, and there is no record of discontinuation. The number of devices manufactured and sold is not publicly disclosed by the company. The price is not publicly disclosed as the item is provided to healthcare facilities, but distributors can advise upon request. There is no mention of the device in the news. The device model does not have a predecessor or successor.
Identification
The unit has a clear, see-through nebulizer chamber on top of a light blue colored, semi-sloped base. The control display buttons are placed on the lower end slope of the base and are on top of a white semi-circular background in front of the nebulizer chamber. A cover is placed inside a spacer ring, on top of the plug, above the nebulizer chamber. A ventilation and aerosol hose are attached to each side of the cover. The device has a holding rod and a support rod with clips that hold the length of the aerosol hose. A gutter is around the nebulizing chamber. The unit dimensions are 300 in width, 250 in height, and 300 mm in diameter. The total height with base is approximately 1200 mm.
There is a nameplate at the back of the unit. The nameplate shows the brand logo HICO Medical Systems, the model device's name of HICO-Ultrasonat 810, and the performance data. It also shows made in Germany.
This is the only model in the portfolio. There are no other similar models. The base only comes in one color.
