Background
The Chromebook x360 14 are a series of different models for a convertible design model that HP has incorporated. The laptop can be folded into a tablet-like shape with touchscreen capabilities for easing tasks like watching videos, lectures, and perhaps even reading articles where the keyboard portion of the device is not needed. More specifically, the model for this repair page is the x360 14b-ca0013dx. HP released this model towards the end of 2019 around September. Just recently HP announced upgrades to the newer versions of these series of laptops with upgrades to the RAM capacity, storage capacities, and better looking displays.
The 14 series come with 14" display screens whereas the 12 series are equipped with slightly smaller screens, only 12". Both promise a minimum of 10hrs for the battery life and come with touchscreen capabilities, making the only noticeable difference the screen size among some smaller differences within the system's specifications and in the price range. The exact laptop model is not found on HP's website or other suppliers, but can be found on Amazon for a modest price of $650 CAD or nearly $500 USD for our friends in the U.S.A. Other similar models like the 14b-cd0010ca or the 14b-cd0030ca can be purchased directly from HP's website for around the same price.
People have found that the main issues from this device arise from the screen/display and keyboard. Like most laptops, there are the two main components that make up a laptop, so it makes sense that these would go first in terms of wear and tear. Others have noted few issues with the operating system, where random notifications appear, or "system not responding" message appears, forcing the user to either restart or wait for the system to resolve the issue on its own.
The x360 14 series are known to be laptops that can be relied on by students who don't need it for memory extensive tasks, and need something on the lower end when it comes to pricing. Sitting at the $500 USD mark makes it not "too expensive" but it certainly doesn't make it a "cheap" alternative either. For the specs that come with this device, it seems reasonable to price it like this, keeping in mind its limitations.
Identification
On the outside, you'll notice right away the laptop has a white cover, with a circular 'hp' logo in the middle, and a chrome logo and name on the top left corner. Once opened up, has a silver color keyboard, and a black border around the screen/display with a 'hp' logo right in the bottom center of the border, just above the keyboard. If you are able to fully fold the laptop 180 degrees into a tablet, then you most likely are holding onto a 14 series Chromebook. If still unsure, you can just flip over the device, and on the top of the bottom portion, you should see in very fine print, the model name among other things.
