The GPD Win Max 3 is a compact clamshell handheld PC made by GPD, a company known for small gaming laptops with built-in controls. It succeeds the Win Max 2 and pairs a 9.06-inch AMOLED touchscreen with an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ “Strix Halo” processor. A major design change is the power system: instead of a built-in battery, it uses a removable 97 Wh battery module that attaches below the keyboard. A separate fan module is also available for heavier workloads. Without the battery, the device needs external power, so it can work as a small desktop-style PC with a built-in screen.

The Win Max 3 is built around AMD’s “Strix Halo” chips, a processor family that combines a many-core CPU with a large integrated graphics unit in a single package. GPD offers it with either the 8-core Ryzen AI Max+ 388 or the 16-core Ryzen AI Max+ 395, both paired with Radeon 8060S graphics, according to Liliputing. The memory is soldered onto the board rather than installed in a slot, so it cannot be upgraded later. Because the processor and graphics share that memory, Notebookcheck reports that a large portion of it can be assigned to graphics. Reports describe the cooling system as substantial, allowing the chip to run at about 110 watts.

Compared with many compact laptops, the Win Max 3 offers several ways to change or add storage. Notebookcheck reports a factory-installed M.2 2280 drive, a second M.2 2230 slot, and a Mini SSD slot, a small card format GPD uses for removable storage. Its ports include USB4, a second USB-C, two USB-A, a full-size HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB4 port can also connect to GPD’s external graphics dock. Since the battery detaches from the body, it can be swapped or replaced without opening the case, which is helpful for repairs.

The GPD Win Max 3 looks like a small clamshell laptop with a 9.06-inch AMOLED touchscreen that opens to a full keyboard, a touchpad, and built-in game controls on either side. The base unit measures about 207 x 147 x 34 mm and weighs about 815 g, and with the removable battery module attached it measures about 207 x 180 x 34 mm and weighs about 1,220 g. Users can tell it apart from similar models, such as the Win Max 2, by its smaller 9.06-inch screen (the Win Max 2 has 10.1 inches), its thicker body, the removable battery module, and the lack of an OCuLink port. The model name can be confirmed in Windows under Settings > System > About, and the physical model number is located on the underside. GPD has not listed alternate color options in its launch coverage, so the device appears to come in one standard color(black). Distinguishing features include magnetic cover panels above the keyboard that hide the joysticks, plus a D-pad, ABXY buttons, shoulder buttons, analog triggers, a touchpad, and an HDMI port.
