Background and Identification

Dräger offers service software for the configuration of Dräger ventilators and gas measuring devices. Dräger AG is a German company that produces breathing and protection equipment, noninvasive patient monitoring technologies, and gas detection and analysis systems. Dräger sells its products to hospitals, fire departments, and diving companies.

Dräger sells software portfolios for the adjustment of portable gas measuring devices; as software updates become available, individual Dräger products can be updated via the Internet as long as the provided software is already installed and the system runs on the Windows 2000, XP, or Vista operating system. Dräger’s service software packages can save measurement results, configure instruments, and view performance data for ventilators and other devices.

Ventilators are responsible for manually moving air in and out of a patient’s lungs. Unlike other breathing assistance devices like a BiPAP or CPAP, a ventilator is invasive, in that a tube is inserted into the patient’s windpipe. Ventilators function by delivering a positive pressure flow of air into the lungs, then allowing the elasticity of the lungs to exhale the air. Modern ventilators usually allow for micro-adjustments in pressure and volume for specific patient needs. They are also commonly equipped with a breathing monitor so that oxygen levels and airflow can be carefully monitored.
