DHS790AB
Background
The DEWALT Miter Saw (DHS790AB - TYPE 20) is a 12-inch, 120V Max Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw. This device was released in 2016 for a retail price of $769 without batteries or $799 with batteries and could be found in major retailers until around 2023.
The DEWALT miter saw looks structurally similar to most other miter saws from other brands. This saw can make miter and bevel cuts, meaning it can make angled cuts horizontally and vertically. The device can be powered by a 60V DEWALT battery or by plugging the device directly into a standard 120V outlet. The device has a 12-inch circular blade that cuts up to 13.75 inches deep. The blade pivots to make miter cuts of up to a 50-degree angle on the left side or a 60-degree angle on the right side. The device also has a 49-degree bevel range to the left and right. Depending on the cut angles, the saw can cut objects with a maximum thickness of 2.2 to 4.4 inches.
In August 2022, DEWALT issued a safety recall for this model for saws with date codes from 2019 04 to 2022 04. The data code is engraved on the back of the motor and marks the year, week, and plant code in which it was made. The plastic rear guard on these devices can break if struck, exposing the saw blade and increasing the risk of injury.
DEWALT stopped producing and promoting this saw around 2022, and most retailers list this model as either indefinitely out of stock or discontinued. Comparable products from DEWALT include the DCS361B and the DCS781B. The DCS361B is a cordless but slightly smaller miter saw with a blade measuring 7-1/4 inches. This model is less powerful but is more portable because of its smaller dimensions and lighter weight. The DCS781B has similar dimensions and range of movement but has a higher battery capacity at 9Ahr compared to 6Ah and can cut materials up to 6.5 inches thick.
Some common repairs needed for miter saws are replacing the bearings in the motor or on the saw blade, replacing worn carbon brushes, and fixing wobbly blades.
Identification
All DEWALT products use the brand’s yellow and black colors, meaning the different models of miter saws look similar. The DHS790AB measures 20.4 inches tall, 32.26 inches long, and 23.92 inches deep.
When looking at the device from the front, the most notable features are the yellow rectangular Motor above and left of the circular blade, the yellow Operating Handle above the circular blade, the Kerf Plate, which is the yellow plastic channel that is aligned with the saw blade, and the aluminum Fence that stands at a 90-degree angle to the Kerf Plate.
The model number, DHS790AB, is printed on a sticker on the top of the motor and is found on the second line under the brand logo.
