RS35
Background
The Bosch RS35 is a corded reciprocating saw that was made for tough construction tear downs and remodeling projects. Reciprocating saws use a fast back and forth cutting motion to chop through all kinds of job site materials. They are super common on construction sites because they can squeeze into tight spots where circular saws or hand saws just cannot reach. That makes them really useful for cutting through framing wood, drywall, plastic plumbing pipes, and metal studs.
Released around 2008 or 2009 with a list price near $377 (though it usually sold closer to $150 or $200), the RS35 was built for professional contractors and demolition crews. It was sold all over North America and other countries. While Bosch never shared exact sales numbers, it was a popular high-end model at major tool stores. It sat near the top of Bosch's corded saw family, replacing older models by adding a better internal counterbalance system that helped cut down on hand vibration. When battery power got much better, corded saws like the RS35 were phased out and replaced by cordless options like the Bosch PROFACTOR series.
The RS35 did not have any big safety recalls, but users in reviews did talk about a few common issues over time. While people really liked its raw cutting power and smooth feel, the main complaints were that it felt pretty heavy at over 10 pounds and sawdust could get stuck in the front blade clamp if you did not clean it out. Overall, it is still remembered as a durable and reliable workhorse from Bosch's corded lineup.
Identification
Identifying the Bosch RS35 is easy because of its specific shape and color. The saw has a long straight body made of Bosch's dark blue plastic, with black rubber padding wrapped around the back handle and the front grip. It measures about 19 inches long and weighs a little over 10 pounds, so it feels heavier and bulkier in your hands than entry-level saws. You can tell the RS35 apart from other Bosch models by looking at the exposed silver metal gear housing near the front and the "LockJaw" blade release lever located right on the side of the front chuck. It only came in one color option, which is the standard Bosch blue, black, and silver setup. To confirm the model number, you can check the sticker printed on the side or bottom of the main blue plastic housing, where "RS35" is listed right next to the serial number and voltage ratings.
