JS470E

Background

The Bosch JS470E is a Top-Handle corded Jigsaw. The Bosch JS470E (model number: JS470E) was released in 2011 and is lightweight jigsaw designed to make clear and concise cuts into a variety of materials, primarily advertised to handle soft wood, aluminum, and mid steel. This device is intended for construction workers, woodworkers, and at-home use for owners who want to work on jigsaw required personal projects. The price range for the Bosch JS470E seems to vary from $199-240, however mostly is sold at $209.

There has been no recorded manufacture recalls or common failure models, however, it has been described to have an easily worn out lifter rod (Blade Holder Mechanism). Despite being advertised to include a quick and safe tool-less blade change system for ejecting blades with just a lever without ever needing to touch the blade. It has been found that consequently this blade ejecting mechanism can lead the blade holder to become the most common failure point, with it wearing out and breaking after years and years of use.

Some widespread complaints have involved the Bosch JS470E exclusively using T-Shank blades. Owners who have attempted to use older and more universal U-Shank blades have reported jamming and the wrong blades just falling out. Some users have also reported blade wandering, with the saw slightly curves or drifts when trying to make straight cuts. However, this is more of a device limitation caused by many aspects and is universal regarding jigsaws.

The Bosch JS470E was made to be the successor of the Bosch 1590EVS and the 1590EVSK series. The main changes that the Bosch JS470E introduced was the 7.0-amp motor and a newer device body and handle style. Later on the Bosch JS470E was replaced with the more higher tier JS572 series, which was superior in many of it's handling and power and also included a few additional features along with LED lights and double-roller guides.

Identification

The Bosch JS470E has a dark navy blue body with black soft grip areas on and around the handle. On the left side with the saw facing forward, under the opening for the handle there should be a large BOSCH text in orange and under that text should include a smaller white text that will list its model number, this model should read JS470E.

Near the front on the side with the BOSCH text there will be a small black lever that can be switched to several different settings, this being the four orbital action settings. Now slightly more near the front will be a black slider that is the multi-directional blade clamp.
