Background

Bang & Olufsen released the Beosound Explore in April 2021 as its adventure-oriented rugged portable bluetooth speaker. The Type II hard-anodized aluminum shell—manufactured in Denmark—uses a vertical rib structure for scratch and impact protection, and the speaker carries an IP67 rating. It was the first B&O product to include an integrated carabiner, complementing a replaceable flexible strap.

True360 omnidirectional sound comes from two 1.8 in full-range drivers driven by two 30 W Class D amplifiers, with a 56 Hz–22.7 kHz frequency range. Two Explores can be stereo-paired, and EQ presets are customizable through the Bang & Olufsen app. Fast pairing is supported via MFi (Apple), Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair, with multipoint connection to two devices. The single USB-C port handles both charging and wired audio streaming. Early units received a firmware update improving battery reporting; checking firmware via the B&O app is a useful first troubleshooting step.

The Beosound Explore retails for $299 and is available in Black Anthracite, Grey Mist, Green, or Bonfire Orange. There's also a red Ferrari Edition for $349.

Identification

The Explore is a compact cylinder, 81 mm in diameter and 124 mm tall, weighing 631 g (637 g with carabiner), with a ribbed aluminum barrel, a rubber base, and a fabric top housing recessed, glove-friendly buttons (power, Bluetooth, play/pause, volume) under a rubber overlay. The carabiner lug and B&O logo distinguish it from other small cylinder speakers. The B&O item number is printed on the base label.
