Background and Identification

By definition, arthroscopy is the surgical operation of examining and repairing a joint. Also known as keyhole surgery, arthroscopy generally consists of the use of arthroscopes, which is an endoscope that is inserted into a joint. Arthroscopes are usually narrow tubes with a tiny fiber-optic camera attached to the end of the tube that allow surgeons to see the inside of a joint. The images are then projected onto a monitor for the surgeon to view.
