thank you for the information and I appreciate your time.........but I am after the MOTOR speed, not the paddle speed

I THINK....it will be somewhere near 14,000 RPM max..

@davidwf15 the 14,000 RPM sounds a bit high. Apparently the overall reduction ratio off your gearbox is ~ 40.3:1 (now take that information with a grain of salt considering it's source That would give your motor about 8000 RPM's which really sounds more in alignment with common motor speeds. Of course, you can always count the teeth and measuring the pulley's of your gears and then calculate the reduction ratio from those measurements.

It's an interesting question and it would be nice if you would share why you are your interested in the motor RPM's

I am designing a fully electronic speed controller to replace the mechanical one, yes i have tried various triac designs with back emf compensation and none worked so am doing down the picaxe cpu route with optical feedback.

I checked the motor rpm at max speed with an optical tacho and it measured 13800 with a paddle speed of 190 rpm so I dont think my estimation was too far out

@davidwf15 awesome! That'll give it a ~70:1 gear ratio for the gearbox ;-) Best of luck with your project and hopefully you take lots of pictures to create a guide for the rest of us :-)
