Why won't my shutter open after taking pic?
After taking pic the release button does not return to position

@gloriakrolak here is the Nikon D7000SM you may need to work on your camera. I would check the mirror and aperture lever. Try this. Take the lens off and look inside the camera. Take a picture and watch what happens. If the mirror stays stuck up, check the small metal aperture control lever just inside the left side of the metal lens mount ring. If that lever is bent or binding against the housing, it will freeze the whole sequence until you press the button again to force it past the bind.
Next check if the mirror drops right back down immediately after the shutter fires when you try to take a picture. If it does stay locked in the up position and needs a second press of the shutter button to drop the mirror, you are dealing with a mechanical bind. This can be caused by a failing sequence motor or a cracked gear inside the mirror control box.

Anyhow, at what time, or what do you have to do, to get the release button back into position to take another picture? I wonder if this is not related to a stuck shutter.

I thought it might be just stuck too. In order to take another picture I have to press the release button again, then it opens.
