Repair and disassembly information for Google's Pixel 7 smartphone, released in October 2022. Identified by model number GVU6C and GQML3.

Replacement screen won't turn on

I've purchased a genuine Pixel 7 screen replacement from iFixit. The original screen had a black spot that slowly kept growing to the point where you cannot use the screen at all. I've carefully taken the screen off with my repair kit and connected the screen to the phone. No image or anything comes up when powering on the phone. I've checked the connections and nothing is bent or ripped. The touch capabilities seem to be working though.

Any good suggestions?

Does the old screen still turn on?

No, the old screen's panel cracked underneath the glass. It started out at some black blotches that slowly grew bigger until the entire screen was black.

The good news here is that iFixit has a great lifetime warranty on their screens, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a replacement under warranty.

The bad news is that over the last couple of years, being a Pixel owner myself, I've noted a disturbing tendency for brand new, factory Google Pixel screens to not work right out of the box. It's just my opinion, but it seems Google has a quality control issue with their replacement screens; far more of them seem to be DOA than you would reasonably expect.

So I suggest you contact iFixit support and talk to them about taking advantage of your warranty. You can go through the FixBot assistant or email them directly at support@ifixit.com.

Try a force restart first

Before anything else hardware-wise hold Power + Volume Down for about 10 seconds. Sometimes the phone boots into a state where the display doesn't initialize properly, and a force restart clears it.

Trying volume down +power as well as volume up + power doesn't yield any results. Nothing comes up on the screen.
