Repair, disassembly, and troubleshooting information for the Xbox Series X, Microsoft's 4K gaming console. The Xbox Series X was released alongside its companion console, the Xbox Series S, on November 10th, 2020.

Xbox series X won't update

When it reaches the applying phase during the update 73%, it gives me error code screen and says 'something went wrong'. I can not use it since it's stuck on the something went wrong error.

I have not opened my console yet, is still sealed. I'm afraid the SSD is faulty but not sure. What could I do?

Hi!

Did you tried the offline update with USB? Would try this first.

It’s a general “I can’t update” error. But could be the SSD yes…

If nothing is working, you probably need to replace the SSD. But this is easier said then be done. There is a unique key on the SSD which is very difficult to transfer (it could be transferred as long as your current SSD is working).

I advise to ask a local repair shop who can actually clone the SSD with the key to a new SSD (if possible).

I've tried the offline usb update but it didn't finish and gave the same error code.

I Contacted local repair shops but they quote me such high prices where it's not even worth repairing for that price. I guess I'll try my luck and clone my own ssd

Yes, I would try that too if the prices are way to high. Can you let us know how that goes?

Thank you!
