Repair manuals and information for the Microsoft Surface Laptops.

Charger doesn't work all the time.

I recently got a Surface 39w charger from my friend since I've been relying on USB-C chargers, my charger only works sometimes and I don't know why it's doing that because it worked for my friends Surface Laptop.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Your 39W Surface charger (likely the magnetic Surface Connect type for older Surface Laptop models like Go, Laptop 1-4, or similar) having intermittent charging issues is a common problem reported by many Surface users. Since it worked reliably on your friend's device but not consistently on yours, the charger itself might have developed wear (e.g., internal cable strain near the magnetic connector, dirty contacts, or a tripped protection circuit), or there could be a minor issue with your device's port.

A known weak point in older Surface magnetic chargers due to cable strain or design. Since it worked on your friend's device, test it back on theirs if possible to confirm. Replacement genuine Microsoft 39W chargers are available, or consider a higher-wattage official one or a good third-party USB-C PD option for more reliability going forward.

If your device is still under warranty or you need further help, check Microsoft's support site for service options.
