Battery not charging stuck at 1 %

I bought this MacBook Air a while back never used it till now since I just enrolled in school, I decided to take it out and set it up. Plugging it in and letting it charge or what I thought was charging. I noticed it has been stuck on 1%. Thismacbook is brand new !!! Still đŸ˜©. It doesn’t tell me the battery health but does say it needs attention. I don’t want to pay for a replacement battery if it doesn’t need absolutely need it. HELP. I spent too much money on it.

The battery charging logic is stuck! This can happen when a systems Battery is fully discharged, in your case as it sat unused it sounds like for a few years (~4)!

If your cars battery died you would ask a friend for a jump to get you going and you would at least get the car running, but as soon as you turn off the ignition your car likely won't start again without asking your friend for a second jump!

In this simple example the battery is no longer being used as the alternator power is enough to keep the engine running.

So what to do? Here we need to input power directing into the battery using a bench power supply so the battery offers the BMC a trickle of power so it knows it's there! This is something a good tech can do to recover the battery, otherwise your only hope is to replace it.

If your new MacBook Air is stuck at 1% and says the battery “needs service,” try an SMC reset and updating macOS—if that doesn’t work, it's likely a defective battery and should be covered under warranty, so contact Apple Support before spending anything.
