iPod Touch 6th Generation: iPod Touch 6G rapid boot loop, dies immediately if taken off charger

This needs a detailed back story beyond just "rapid bootloop, dies if taken off charger"

This was a working iPod Touch 6th Gen, 32GB Gold in a noticeably bent housing. I got a replacement used housing, moved the working board and screen into the used housing, new battery, all worked great until I opened the camera app, which seemingly killed the board, now it does the rapid bootloop and can't hold a charge at all. It never fully boots up, just goes white apple screen to black screen repeatedly.

I don't think anyone would expect a used original rear camera to be dangerous, yes I did already try swapping another rear camera and another new battery, no change.

So I take it I need another logic board? I'd just like to know why iPod Touches die like this. Did the NAND flash die? Charging circuit? Sad this probably can't be fixed.

Update (08/10/24)

I got a third battery to test with and it actually worked, the iPod touch lives again!! Seems gotta get a really good battery and make sure it's soldered really well.

iPod Touch 6th Generation: Repaired, but the problems are the same.

So I did not do the repair myself but an expert did, however this ipod still had the same problems. First: it wont charge even though when it was fixed it did but no it wont. Second: the battery was replaced and it used to hold a charge at all and now it doesnt. And lastly: when ever I power it on it gets really hot really fast.

Also I would like to add that im not trying to be mean because I known they dont hold a very long charge like a modern phone but I thought it would be better since the battery was replaced. And I just didnt expect it to heat up like that. Also if anyone would like to add any tips because Im am hoping to kind of use it as a mp3 player.

I have attempted to do a battery replacement, the first time I did this I was successful.

The screen was replaced recently and I was able to see the screen turned on and worked.

I have now reattempted another battery replacement but the device doesn’t turn on. The solder connection looked fine and I tried with a new battery but nothing happens now.

I read somewhere I might need to short the 3rd connection point to ground. Can someone advise how I need to this or any better suggestions please.

iPod Touch 6th Generation: Battery contacts scratched (before solder)

I used a heat gun to desolder the old battery from the logic board (while I wait for my new soldering station to arrive from Amazon).

I tested my new battery by pushing it down onto the board and the iPod booted fine until I let go.

I cleaned out the contact points on the board with a Q tip and some 91% isopropyl but I’m afraid I may have scratched them too hard. Pushing the battery down no longer boots the iPod when clicking the power button.

When my soldering station arrives, will soldering each point still work okay? Or do I need to do something else to repair it. I’m only worried because pressing the battery contact down no longer works.

Let me know if anyone has an idea! Just wondering if soldering it normally will be okay.

iPod Touch 6th Generation: iPod touch stuck on red battery sign despite changing battery

My iPod touch 6 won't turn on if it is unplugged. When plugged in, it stays on the red battery icon but never charges or switches on. Tried hard reset with no success.

When I unplug the iPod, the iPod switches off. I thought it is a battery issue and changed the battery myself. But even with the new battery it does the same thing

Interestingly, when the battery is not connected. The iPod switches on and shows the Apple logo but keeps doing loops. I checked the battery with a volt meter and it has charge, however when the battery is soldered onto the logic board, I cannot detect a voltage in the battery. Once I disconnect it I can detect a voltage.

Also there seems to be some kind of connection between the positive and negative lead of the battery ONLY when I connect the battery to the logic board (tested using a volt meter)

Anyone have any idea if this is a logic board issue or something else?

Hello and good afternoon,

i am learning board level repairs and micro soldering. I’ve just replaced an iPod touch 6th gen charge port because it wouldn’t charge or turn on. Anyways, I soldered it on and it’s still not charging or turning on.

I measured pin 10 bottom row of a good working iPod and it’s measuring 1.7volts charging. I measure pin 10 on this iPod and it reads 0. However, if I measure the pin at the end of the bottom row, I’m getting 4.7 volts..

does anyone one have a schematic for the charging dock on the touch 6th gen and what else I should do to solve why it’s not charging or turning on. I also replaced the battery 3 times and still nothing …
