iPod Touch 4th Generation: How do you revive a completely DEAD iPod Touch?

I have been fixing iPods for my own kids and their friends. I am able to fix most of them, but some just have me stumped.

Some are completely dead.

How do I tell what is wrong with them?

By completely dead, I mean iTunes won't recognize them and they won't power on.

I have tried the trick where you short the positive battery terminal to ground.

I have tried holding down Power and Home buttons for 15 seconds.

Is there an easy way to tell if the problem is the 30 pin connector before you replace the connector (it's not a trivial task...)?

Thanks for your help !!

My ipod touch is making a ''little box" around every app I touch and i have to double-tap for the app to start. It also won't let me scroll down on anything(ex. settings, safari pages, etc.)Another thing it has done is rarely let me get to my second page of apps. My ipod also shouts out everything I do so if I'm entering my passcode it shouts out the numbers of it, and a more annoying one is when my screen is locked...

iPod Touch 4th Generation: Has anyone attempted to separate LCD from Glass Digitizer?

I know its been discussed already, so my question is Simple. I thought someone who had replaced the whole piece may have tried to see whether it was possible or not to separate the LCD from the broken glass.

I have seen both Digitizer and LCD alone for sale or ebay which made me think that they actually CAN be separated and replace only the glass or lcd, but people just like to go the easiest and safest way.

iPod Touch 4th Generation: iPod won't power on after screen replacement, even when plugged in

I just replaced the screen on my iPod, tearing the copper tape on the back of the rear camera in the process. When I first tested it, the power button didn't work—but it turned on after I plugged it in and worked fine. I disassembled it and found nothing wrong with the power/volume ribbon cable or anything else. Upon reassembly, it will no longer power on at all, even when plugged in.
