iPod Touch 3rd Generation: iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode. iTunes won't restore.

My husband plugged his 'apparently dead' iPod Touch into his USB port on the computer and, once it charged some, iTunes didn't recognize it as his iPod (calling it an "iPhone" rather than "Ed's iPod"). It said that iTunes had detected an iPhone in recovery mode and that he had to restore it. When he clicked on 'restore' it said, "Software for this phone is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again." After a few days (after the battery was fully drained again), I plugged it into a wall charger and it began to charge. I was able to fully see everything still on the iPod and even to access his apps. I let it fully charge, but when I unplugged it, it went black again and now it will not do anything. Back to a black screen and if we plug it into the computer, the same cycle starts again with it being recognized as an iPhone needing to be restored, etc.

UPDATE: So, I let the iPod fully drain again and then plugged it into the computer and iTunes. It saw it as an iPod again and said it was in recovery mode and I was able to tell it to restore it. It went through the entire process, and as the iPod was restarting, it again called it an iPhone in recovery mode. Now I can no longer see the apps and the homepage on the computer but rather it shows the symbols to plug it into iTunes to set it up - but again, says it is in recovery mode but will not restore it.

PLEASE HELP.

Ultimately, when the ipod touch is completely dead, it will work if connected to wall charger while it is charging. But when it is has a charge it will no longer work - whether or not it is plugged in.

Someone please help! :)

iPod Touch 3rd Generation: Why won't my backlight work?

It has been a year since this incident, but I am going to do my best to recount everything that transpired that day when my iPod 3rd Gen. went offline.

One day I was taking a shower & folding up my pants (don't ask why, I just was). While doing so, I forgot that the iPod was in my pocket and it quickly fell from my pocket into the toilet bowel which was left opened for it to be welcomed easily into... Sadly, even more so, the iPod was turned on and was kept on for a few seconds after the incident. After retrieving it, I promptly turned off the device, shoved it into a bag of rice, & locked it away within the confides of my closet in hopes that it would once again come alive.

About two weeks later, I turned on the device to try it out. Aside from noticing a loss of battery life (the iPod barely holds one days worth of charge now), the backlight to the iPod stopped working completely. I can see my iPod screen under bright light - the 'slide to unlock' text, the apps, everything is visible with a bright light in the background. But nothing can be seen in a dark room because there is no backlight anymore. To my dismay, I set out on a search to redeem this fallen ally of mine.

I found this place (more so, my fiancee found ifixit.com & shared it with me), and so my conquest to fixing my iPod had been resolved (or so I thought)! I replaced my LCD screen perfectly through the help of your tutorial & then restarted my iPod! But nothing changed... The backlight still remained broken & it was like I hadn't even done anything...

So my question is: Is it possible to redeem this broken iPod without throwing away more money than it's worth? Or would it be more financially appropriate to buy a brand new iPod 3rd Generation? If it's going to cost the same, why not go all out, ei?

Whatever your suggestions or advice, thank you for taking the time to answer my question! Good day to you all!

My iPod touch 32 GB 3rd Generation is not charging. The battery icon comes on with red at the bottom and the lightning bolt as if it is charging, then it switches to the Apple icon with lighted marks at bottom, and then switches back to the low empty battery icon after 5 or 10 min, then back to apple sign without lightening marks at the bottom.
iPod Touch 3rd Generation: Why is my screen flickering when I wake it from standby?

I have an iPod touch 64gb, jailbroken with redsn0w, and I have been having problems with both my screen flickering with white lines after I wake it from standby. As well, my home button sometimes feels unresponsive and laggy.

I am reasonably sure that the jailbreaking is not the cause off the issues, because even though I have made many modifications to the file system, and other aspects of the firmware, I have gone through both an iTunes restore and a DFU restore, which fully erases the file system, and the problem still persists.

I do not want to trade my iPod in to Apple because if they give me a new unit I will not be able to jailbreak until a new exploit is released. So I am now wondering if I need a new LCD/Digitizer, or if there is some trick I can use on my own to solve the problems.

Thank you for your time.

- A worried iPod touch user
