iPod 2nd Generation: Is there a maximum disk size the iPod OS can support

Hello,

I have a big problem changing the hard drive on my 2nd gen iPod. I replaced the original 10 Go HDD by a 128Go SSD (Kingspec 1.8" CF Solid State Drive (IDE 50pin) (KSD-CF18.6-XXXMS).

I've spent many hours trying to see the disk in Disk Utility to format it in HFS+ in order to prepare it for iTunes.

It takes between 20-30 minutes to mount and then when i lunch the format procedure it takes a very (Around half an hour) to do so until it tells me that it's impossible to write on the last bloc...

So is the SSD faulty here ? Or maybe this old iPod cannot support such a big disk ?

Please help me !

iPod 2nd Generation: Mac formatted 2nd gen, Windows PC

So, I have a iPod 2nd gen classic and its chocked full of music, all 20gb, and i’m looking to format it so i can use it a daily carry. Upon connection to my pc via a firewire pcie card, itunes states it's a mac formatted device. Meaning it's the mac compatible version. Ive purchased a compatible 40gb drive and tried to keep the original but itunes refused to restore the new drive, plus the drive straight up wasn’t spinning at this point once i did get it to start restoring. I fear just restoring the original drive to windows will ruin the ipod as this is my second 2nd gen, the first one died to harddrive failure upon restoring. What can I do? Is it safe to restore a mac compatible classic to windows? Should i go the route of getting my powerbook working?

iPod 2nd Generation: Using a MK2004 GAL in a 20 GB iPod (Thick)?

Hi there,

I recently aquired a 20GB Ipod 2G with a bad HDD ( Checked using HD Tune). I would like to know if I would be able to use a MK2004GAL instead of the MK2003GAH that is in the device currently.
iPod 2nd Generation: My iPod is possibly corrupt and don't know how to fix without spending

My iPod is not working at all. and is showing a folder icon with a warning sign with exclamation mark in the middle. I did a LOT of research on it and have heard that the only way to fix it is to buy a whole mac and download iTunes 2-4 (the iTunes version that best supports this model.), and I'm just wondering if it's possible to... not pay like 100$ on a MacBook I'll never use and instead just somehow use my pc to fix it? disk mode won't work at all, iTunes doesn't even see my iPod if it's plugged in and the iPod is too old for RockBox. Someone PLEASE help me.

iPod 2nd Generation: 2002 iPod 2nd Generation Windows Version won't format for iTunes?

Hello!

I bought an iPod 2nd Generation yesterday from eBay. It was working fine with preloaded songs on it. This iPod is from 2002 so I'm finding it really hard to find support for it which is why I'm here right now. Because it's a windows formatted iPod and I'm running a Mac, I first tried hooking it up to my mac with it mounting on my desktop but iTunes wouldn't recognize it? So I thought it was a windows problem not a new version of iTunes just not recognizing my old iPod.. I went to disk utility and reformatted my iPod to Mac Os Extended (Journaled) which took all the music off my iPod, and now I'm seeing a folder icon with an exclamation point. I've tried looking on youtube which they say hold combinations of the center button and the menu button then the center button and the play button which both are not working. Other I've tried a few things but nothing seems to work. I just want iTunes to recognize the iPod and reinstall it's software on the disk. How would you reformat a brand new hard drive for an iPod? I see them being sold online, after purchasing one there seems to be no instructions on how to get them to work with iTunes? From what I understand you may have to use an older version of iTunes to put the software back on, but i'm not sure. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this issue I'd be so thankful! It' so hard searching all over the internet with no answers to such a common problem.
