iPhone 8: Low Battery Screen only

Hey iFixit Team!

So, recently me and a buddy of mine found a box of 12 iPhones. We were piecing them back together little by little. I several of those iPhones were iPhone 8s. One in particular would not turn on, opening it showed some rust, obvious signs of water damage. We replaced the logic board and got the low battery icon when we plugged it in. Even in we unplugged it the phone showed the lightening adapter to plug the phone back in.

However, after being plugged in for over 12 hours, nothing has changed. Is the a battery issue? Maybe another board issue? Where should we check next?

Thanks in advance!

iPhone 8: Battery Fully Dies Overnight

My iPhone 8 was at 82% battery health and would fully die from 100% to shut off dead in about 8 hours. The phone is not used once during this and the battery section does not show any apps running in the background. So, figured it was the battery and replaced it with an iFixit battery kit. To my surprise, it still dies overnight, and the battery graph shows the same steady but rapid decline to 0%. I am now worried there is a board issue. Any ideas?

Edit: Well my friend is having the same issue with their iP8, so I guess they have this problem. The phone will die even if it is shut off, it will die in a few hours. It will be so dead it can't show the low battery screen and loses date/time. This seems to be a board issue, I am interested if anyone else has seen this issue?

iPhone 8: unpredictable and random taptic engine thumping

iphone 8 with a home button that failed a couple of years ago. replaced with with a 3rd party JCID brand home button which worked great. within the last 6 months, the assistive touch on-screen home button would popup randomly, but eventually i learned to program the home button triple-tap to turn the on-screen button on and off, so it was a workable workaround. it still manages to appear at the most inopportune time, like when i'm playing a game and appears right where an game action is so when i am trying to attack, i go back to the phone's home screen. more annoying but not a "time to get rid of the phone" level event.

recently though, how the taptic engine will just start tapping away for a while (between 0.5 and 1.0 second intervals) but eventually stop. durations can last a few seconds to over 2 minutes (infrequent). but what also happens during that time, screen responsiveness goes to crap, a lot of times again while i'm trying to play a game.

around the same time this started, the home button has become less responsive, especially when i try to engage double and triple taps. could be related to the taptic or maybe not.

this is definitely weird behavior. i can definitely try a new home button. not sure if the taptic engine would warrant replacing. not sure if there's enough circuitry in it that could go rogue or if the signal to tap comes from the mainboard and the engine is just the mechanical thumper.

any thoughts on how to troubleshoot or what parts may likely need replacing?

iPhone 8: Has anyone seen this battery crashing issue?

After installing a new ifixit battery onto my iPhone8, it worked fine for a couple of weeks,

but this week it started crashing after the battery dropped below 80%, and in some cases even crashed when just trying to make a call. As you can see from the battery health graph, the charge plummeted suddenly from 80% to <10% when I tried to make a call. Seems like a severe internal resistance problem, since it cannot handle a heavy electrical load. Or a wacky BMS problem. I wiped and reinstalled the iOS and it did not help.

iPhone 8: After closing screen, half of touch becomes unresponsive

Hello, i recently bought refurbished Iphone 8 screen. I tested the screen before closing and it was working as it should. But when i closed the screen (attached it to the frame) half of touch stops working until i open the phone up and "shake" with the LCD, then it starts working again, sometimes 2 vertical lines shows up but shaking again makes them disappear. I tried closing the phone slowly, fast but still nothing. Also the original screen works just fine. My guess is the flex is somehow damaged or idk, anyone knows how to reslove this issue?

iPhone 8: Tried to fix camera- home button broke and now screen won't turn on

Hi, I tried to fix my shaky camera by putting a little magnet on it. I took the camera out first to check it. When I turned on the phone to check if the camera shaking stopped, it said touch ID unavailable. I put everything back in its place, turned the phone on again, and now the home button isn't working at all. I use my computer to return to factory settings, and when it turned back on the screen brightness was extremely low. Now I can't see anything on the screen. I've tried to detach and reattach everything, and I don't see any tears on the home button flex cable. What could possibly be wrong? My phone is a refurbished one if that matters.

iPhone 8: Why is my device ban eliminated after I swap bad motherboards?

So I have two iPhone 8's, my new one and my old one. I got permanently banned from Reddit on my new iPhone and it appeared to be on the device level. I knew this because I made new accounts, changed my IP adress, reset the phone, but the permanent ban stayed on the new iPhone. I also did research and the consensus said when Reddit does perma bans, it's a device ban that cannot be evaded without getting another phone. My old iPhone was never banned so one day I swapped the motherboards of the iPhones so I can use the app on my new iPhone. This means I put the old, not banned motherboard in my new iPhone body, and vice versa. As expected, I was able to use the app on the new phone (old, not banned motherboard). But to my surprise, I could use Reddit on the old iphone (new but previously banned motherboard). I cannot figure out why the previously banned motherboard became unbanned, to my knowledge the device ban meant that the motherboard was perma banned. Does anybody have an explanation for this?
