iPhone 8: Use of silicon sealer for iPhones

Instead of the sealer that's supplied with a replacement battery or screen, has anyone used electronic silicon sealer to reseal the screen to the case because one slips up and ruins the replacement seal?

Seems to me that using a small syringe, something similar to the size used for insulin injections would work. Like bathroom caulking, but on a much smaller scale.

Thanks

iPhone 8: Replacing Cracked Camera Lens on iPhone 8

I've owned my Iphone 8 for 5 days and somehow the camera lens cracked. It doesn't affect the camera performance but will this part become available at some point? The apple store said the only way is to replace the entire phone. I saw a youtube video for an Iphone 7 where they heated it up, removed the glass lens and then glued a new one in using silicone. Any advice?

iPhone 8: iPhone 8 in Boot Loop

Hi.

As a quick foreword, please forgive my somewhat broken English. You have a %#*@ froggy in the house.

I already posted my question on the French version of the site but never had any reply so far.

My iPhone 8 is stuck in a Boot Loop when I stop using it or when I try to shut it off. The phone is working fine (I can receive and send calls or sms and use the few apps installed). Here for the symptom.

I have to add that I successfully replaced the screen few days ago. I also had to replace the rear case. Unable to remove the original battery from the broken rear case (goddam adhesive strips that always break when you try to tear them off!). I ordered a new one (see picture 1 for reference) and put it in the new rear case.

While I was putting back the components, don’t ask me what kind of a demon drove me to get my nose in the lightning port bracket. Anyhow, once it was unscrewed I discovered that the Wi-Fi Diversity Antenna (see picture 2) was connected to nothing. Then I decided to take the missing little connector (see picture 3) to put it in the new rear case. Have I done something wrong? Anyway I came up with the above described issue.

Another useful information. I had access to the “Panic Full” bug reports from my phone, so here we go:

{"bug_type":"210","timestamp":"2025-11-26 19:07:45.00 +0100","os_version":"iPhone OS 16.7.12 (20H364)","roots_installed":0,"incident_id":"D4723989-757F-4BAB-8100-4B626F022541"}
{
"build" : "iPhone OS 16.7.12 (20H364)",
"product" : "iPhone10,1",
"socId" : "8015",
"socRevision" : "11",
"incident" : "D4723989-757F-4BAB-8100-4B626F022541",
"crashReporterKey" : "da6725d19f3ba5fa49be76cb94b0c9eb9c59eff8",
"kernel" : "Darwin Kernel Version 22.6.0: Tue Jul 2 20:47:35 PDT 2024; root:xnu-8796.142.1.703.8~1\/RELEASE_ARM64_T8015",
"date" : "2025-11-26 19:07:45.25 +0100",
"panicString" : "panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffff01eed0140): \"i2c3::_checkBusStatus Bus is still in a bad state; last write status 00010110 int shadow 00010100 xfer 00000000 fifo 00000000 for device lm3539\" @AppleS5L8940XI2C.cpp:451\nDebugger message: panic\nMemory ID: 0xff\nOS release type: User\nOS version: 20H364\nKernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 22.6.0: Tue Jul 2 20:47:35 PDT 2024; root:xnu-8796.142.1.703.8~1\/RELEASE_ARM64_T8015\nKernelCache UUID: C77F966291D7FB718E05F899C6EEC2BA\nKernel UUID: 28E24CE2-BA1C-38B1-AC56-C0BE08A077BC\nBoot session UUID: D4723989-757F-4BAB-8100-4B626F022541\niBoot version: iBoot-8422.142.2.700.1\nsecure boot?: YES\nroots installed: 0\nPaniclog version: 14\nKernel slide:

After a long research on Google I could figure out that the i2c3 error code may either involve the lightning cable or the display connector. Can someone come up with a clue or any answer. Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Is this down to a bad screen, or a motherboard fault does anybody have any suggestion? I don’t have a known good or any other iPhone 8 screen by hand at the moment of writing so can’t test myself.

iPhone 8: Apple claims water damage (which voids warranty) but never happened?

I have only had my iPhone 8 for 4 months now. All of a sudden one day I pick it up and turn it on and half of my screen is dimmer than the other half. I immediately turned off the screen and turned it back on and same thing but slightly worse. I turned the screen off again, but this time when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn’t come back on.

The phone had sound and vibration but just a completely black screen. I did a shutdown on the phone and waited about 30 secs and turned it back on. Once again, I had sound and vibration but still just a black screen. I tried to do the hard reset with the volume up, volume down, and power button, but it didn’t work. I can still hear my notifications from email, facebook, etc. Then the phone started making strange danger alert siren sounds repeatedly. That freaked me out so I took the SIM card out of the phone and laid the phone on the table. I still have full sound but only black screen. Suddenly, the phone starts RINGING (but there is no SIM card in the phone)!

This really freaked me out but I picked up the phone and hit the home button which somehow answered the call however, I was still unable to see anything on the screen and then I can hear my local 911 dispatcher asking me if I need help!!!! Of course I try telling them that I’m okay and that there is no emergency, but even though I can hear them, they are unable to hear me at all!! I pushed power and turned the phone off again then waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Still the same…sound but no screen.

Well, this same process continued 3 MORE TIMES, with my local 911 calling me but then not able to hear me answering the phone. At this point I was so frustrated and I just knew that the police were most likely going to show up at my house. I powered the phone off again and this time I just left it off. I figured maybe if I just let the battery run all the way dead overnight and then try to charge it up in the morning, maybe that would work. The next morning I tried to power on and of course the battery was completely dead because I hadn’t charged it. I plugged it in and let it charge for a while and went back to turn it on and there was nothing. No screen. No sounds. No vibrations. Nothing.

This is when I decided to call Apple Support. The support specialist I spoke with was very friendly and she walked me through a series of troubleshooting techniques, including hooking up to my laptop, but none of them worked. The specialist then told me that my phone was still covered under warranty and that most likely it was an issue with the backlight and they would just replace my phone if they were unable to fix it.

She then explained that all I needed to do was wait for my FedEx overnight box they were sending, put my phone inside and use FedEx prepaid overnight shipping to send it back, and they would send me my phone fixed or if they couldn’t fix, they would send a new iPhone 8 the next day by FedEx overnight. As soon as I got the box I put the phone inside, applied the prepaid label, and FedEx picked it up to send to Apple. I waited for 2 days and still had not received anything back from FedEx so I decided I would call Apple Support back to find out what was the hold up.

I was then informed that they had sent me an email (did not try to call me or contact me in any other way) and in this email it said that their expert technician has determined that the phone has had water or liquid damage and therefore the warranty is automatically void so they are unable to send me another phone or fix my phone for free!!!

AT ABSOLUTELY NO POINT IN TIME DID THIS PHONE COME IN TO CONTACT WITH WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID!!!

Not before that day, not on that day, never! The only way possible that a water sensor could have been tripped is maybe from humidity which I read about online after I started to research this issue, but I don’t even think that was the case here either. I’ve had water damaged phones before and I simply had to go get another one. My daughter’s iPad got water damage and I had to replace it too. My son’s iPod got water damage and I had to replace it as well. None of them had any similar symptoms to the ones this phone had and seriously, if I had water damaged the phone, I would just go replace it, I would not be calling Apple Support to find out why it isn’t working!

Needless to say I was very upset. Apple offered to repair the phone for $549!!! I just spent almost $700 on this phone only 4 months ago because I did not lease the phone, I just paid cash for it.

Apple Care is not included when you pay cash of course so I don’t have that either. Of course I told Apple Support that I didn’t have $549 to pay for the repair so they simply sent the phone back to me without repairing it or replacing it.

So now I once again have a COMPLETELY DEAD iPhone 8 that will not charge, will not reset, will not show up on iTunes, WILL NOT DO ANYTHING!!! I know I didn’t water damage the phone. Either there is some other reason why the phone started going crazy or else all this was caused by the humidity, which seems very unlikely to me.

Could it possibly be that the water sensor has been tripped by humidity but there is something else actually wrong with the phone? Does it seem plausible that humidity would do this much damage on it’s own?

How can they claim these phones are water resistant up to 30 minutes if the humidity alone will damage the phone and there has been no actual contact with water? My husband has the same exact phone and he dropped his in a mud puddle and it stayed there for around 5 minutes before we found it, it is still working perfectly today and has never had any issues whatsoever.

Anyhow, is my phone even fixable at this point at all? And if so, where should I take it that doesn’t want to charge me the same amount that a brand new phone would cost? Could it be possible that Apple is simply claiming water damage so they don’t have to replace my phone? I MEAN SERIOUSLY APPLE WTF??????????????

These phones, cost way too much for us to be experiencing these type of issues. My family has spent so much money on Apple products over the years but this one horrible experience with Apple Support has seriously got me considering switching back to Android for good!

Please send any advice on this topic. Thank You!

iPhone 8: Low Battery Screen only

Hey iFixit Team!

So, recently me and a buddy of mine found a box of 12 iPhones. We were piecing them back together little by little. I several of those iPhones were iPhone 8s. One in particular would not turn on, opening it showed some rust, obvious signs of water damage. We replaced the logic board and got the low battery icon when we plugged it in. Even in we unplugged it the phone showed the lightening adapter to plug the phone back in.

However, after being plugged in for over 12 hours, nothing has changed. Is the a battery issue? Maybe another board issue? Where should we check next?

Thanks in advance!

iPhone 8: iPhone 8 reboots upon enabling loud speaker or listening to loud music

Hi iFixit! This seems to be the first-ever question that I am willing to ask and hopefully, get a solution from. I'm currently experiencing a very frustrating problem with an iPhone 8 that I got from a friend of mine. Usually, I don't really seek any advice or help since I've repaired lots of phones before and know my way around problems, however, this seems to be the first one ever to drive me into seeking it.

Initially, the iPhone 8 had an obliterated screen and a malfunctioning volume down button (irrelevant). So, as usual, I've ordered a screen replacement from my supplier, and as soon as it arrived, unscrewed the shields, disconnected the battery, removed the screen by disconnecting the relevant screen and front camera flex cables, removed the front camera assembly and earpiece, Touch ID, and the Graphite Shield across from the original screen to the new screen. Screwed everything in the correct order and the phone has booted up. So, as usual, I thought that it was pretty much as far as the repair goes and was ready to give the phone up, however, still decided to test the phone further down by watching some Youtube videos and testing the rest of the hardware thoroughly. As soon as I cranked up the volume to the max, the phone turned itself off and then has shown the Apple logo and booted straight back up. Okay, I said, let's try it again and it has happened again. Inserted my SIM card and decided to call the voice mail, and discovered that the phone also restarts upon enabling the Loud Speaker. I clearly knew that something was wrong. After a quick research, I've come to a decision to disconnect the front camera flex and sure enough, the phone quit restarting. "For sure the problem was within the front camera, right?" - NO apparently. the problem was way more profound than I thought it was initially. So, I've ordered a new front camera flex whatever, connected it and the same thing has happened again. Decided to deviate from my supplier and ordered 4 assemblies from Amazon.ca due to its nature of free returns. Once arrived, ALL FOUR OF THEM HAVE SHOWED THE SAME RESTART SYMPTOM. What's interesting is that the phone doesn't restart without the front camera assembly connected. The phone also restarts regardless of whether the earpiece speaker is connected or not.

I'm completely stuck and have absolutely no clue what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

iPhone 8: How do I drain the battery before opening the device?

Hi there!

Since my ear speaker is painfully silent during calls, I thought it appropriate to open the phone with some newly bought tools from iFixit and try to clean it out before I think of repairing it. From the guides on this website, I see that it’s recommended to drain the battery to 25% and lower before you open the device, to provide some extra safety against fiery accidents.

The question is how I do this the quickest way possible? I’ve read around on the Internet that I’m supposed to raise the back screen light to the max, open up all the applications at once etc. to drain the battery, but I find this kind of solution to be pretty slow as well. Is there a better and faster way to drain the battery? What do the professionals do?

Thanks in advance! :)

iPhone 8: iPhone 8 not recognizing Charge. Suggestions?

Hi I am hoping this gets some attention before I send my phone away, im pretty sure i know whats broken but just want to check to see if there's anything else I could check first.

I was working on my iPhone 8 as it needed a new Battery as I was working on it I accidently broke the ribbon connector for the Taptic Engine, I finished installing the battery while i waited for a replacement engine and the phone worked fine. However While i was Taking it apart to replace the Taptic i forget to disconnect the battery in my haste and now the phone will not show battery Percentage or seemingly charge, it will eventually show a percentage after sitting on a wireless charger for a while but in that time it randomly turns on and off. all i have found googling is that I must have damaged the MOSFET's, they dont look damaged but they could be.

Sorry for the long Question hopefully it makes sense.
Does anyone else have suggestions on what else it could be before i send it away?

iPhone 8: Only shows 1% battery after screen replacement

Title says it all. First time seeing this with an 8 or 7. The phone was working fine (as best I know) with the cracked screen and was around 50% battery. After screen repair, the battery percentage stays at 1% (Even with a new battery with full charge). There is no visible damage to any board components. The phone was powered off and the battery was unplugged before unplugging anything else. When plugged in, the phone detects it was plugged in but never shows the charging symbol. The phone pulls up fine in a computer. While plugged in, it seems to reboot pretty often (every couple of minutes). The phone stayed on overnight without issue while unplugged while still only showing 1% battery. The phone also doesn't seem to go into DFU mode. It just reboots every time I try. It will go into recovery mode, but fails a restore with error 9. From recovery and regular mode, the phone will go through the update without issue. This sounds similar to the issue some people had with the 5S after accidentally damaging one of the resistors next to the battery plug, but I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else had seen this issue.
