iPhone 4: How do I clean corrosion after water damage?

I have an iPhone 4 that was immersed in water, and worked for an hour or so before any problems were evident. It has spent two days in a bowl of rice, but I decided to open it up to see what's going on. The two water-sensitive stickers on the back of the logic board have turned pink, and there are copper salts deposited on the logic board near the bottom of the LCD connector (the connector outlined in orange at Step 17 here: iPhone 4 Logic Board Replacement).

I'm thinking that I will try to clean up this corrosion before trying to plug it in again, but I'm not sure what sort of tool to use. Are we talking isopropyl alcohol and a Qtip, or is there some other accepted approach?

iPhone 4: I can't hear my phone calls unless I put it on speaker.

I can't hear my phone calls unless I put my phone on speaker, but everyone can hear me fine—even if my iPhone is not placed on speaker. I've taken really good care of it and have only dropped it once, which was a few months ago. I just woke up the other morning after charging it, and it no longer works right. I've tried everything, including resetting it and placing half a Q-tip in the ear bud holder. I have an appointment at the Apple Store to have it checked out, but I live so far from the store that it would really be helpful for me to figure this out on my own. Does anyone know of a way to fix it? I would greatly appreciate it. =]

iPhone 4: How can I fix my disabled iPhone 4?

My brother's friend gave him an iPhone 4, and it's disabled. All we can do on it is slide the lock screen to call for an emergency. We've tried to connect it to iTunes and it's not working; it just says "error." At first, it said iTunes needs to be updated, so we updated it. Then it says "iTunes cannot connect to iPhone because it needs a passcode." It tells us to enter the passcode and try again, but the iPhone itself doesn't let us do that. I want to make the phone work for my brother.

iPhone 4: iPhone 4 is working but screen is black?

Yesterday I dropped my phone, and it was working fine when I picked it up to check it, but a few minutes later the screen went black. I know it was still working, because I was still receiving phone calls, texts, and mail. I even took a picture with it.

I've tried holding the home and lock button. I also tried holding the lock button while constantly pressing the home button, but I think the problem with this is that my home button barely worked before the drop. I've tried to reset it and put it in DFU mode, but nothing is working. :( Note that I can't take it to the shop because it's jailbroken.

iPhone 4: dropped into olive oil mixture, now very low sound...

iPhone 4: iPhone shut down, only powers on when connected to charger

Hi there,

I often do iPhone repairs but i have a question about an iPhone that is showing strange behaviour.

This iPhone 4 just goes black all of a suden. I doenst repond to anything, its not working at all at that moment. Also a reset is not possible at that time.

It is not possible to power on the iPhone. Only when connected to a charger is can go on. When its on everything is working fine, shows up in iTunes etc.

I replaced the battery with a new one a did a software recovery. Still the problems accur. It doesnt seem to matter if the phone is connected to a charging source or not, it just shuts off random. When the phone is on everything is working normally.

Another thing that i noticed, when its shuts down you wont see the spinning circle that you would see when manually powering off the iPhone, it just goes dead inmediatly. When the phone is powered off manually, it will also go on the normal way. When it shuts down itself this is not working

The battery is working fine, the phone accepts and charges it just like normal.

Home & sleep button are working perfect.

Any ideas what to do with this *****

***UPDATE*****

The iPhone is now constantly fibrating, it was charging on my pc. Now it wont go on but keeps fibrating :S

When putting the iPhone in DFU mode and try to recover it gives errors. like '2005 and 106'

Any ideas? Any help would be apreciated

iPhone 4: Is there any hope for a good replacement battery at this stage?

Hello :D Not sure if there's still anyone answering questions on devices this old, but I thought I'd try! I've been trying to replace the battery on an old iPhone 4 in my silly little collection of old electronics and was happy to see iFixit still had batteries in stock! But they all seem to be exhibiting odd behaviour.

Despite having some power out of the box, the first one just refused to charge at all and slowly dropped down to 0% and is now completely dead. A replacement for that defective one charges to 94% and then stops. A second replacement seems to charge to 100%, but as soon as I take it off the charger it instantly drops to 97% and then slowly discharges down to around 88-89% before it charges back up again, even if plugged in.

I followed the instructions that came with the batteries to 'calibrate' them (charged to 100% - or as high as they would go - and left for 2 hours, then discharged until the phone shut off and left for 2 hours, then re-charged) but the behaviour remains the same.

I've also tried putting the original battery back in the phone and charging that to see if I damaged anything in the phone when conducting the repair, but that still charges to 100% fine (even if it doesn't last long these days, hence looking for a replacement!). I've also tried once of the replacements in another iPhone 4 I have available, and the same behaviour is exhibited. I've even tried different cables/plug chargers and charging either via a Mac, a powerbank or a wall socket, with no difference. So it does seem to be the batteries.

Now iFixit have been great customer service-wise, sending replacements to me, but I wonder if there's much point me trying again to see if they'll send another replacement, or if the stock they have is likely so old at this point that they're probably all going to be defective in some way?

Also, if I just make the best of what I can with one of these batteries, is there any risk to using batteries displaying slightly 'odd' behaviour like that? The phones will mostly be stored away, obviously, but I don't know if I'm better just removing the batteries entirely.

Thanks for any help you can offer! :)
