I dropped my iPhone, and now I get a "no service" message.

When the phone boots up (or after switching the airplane mode on and off) it finds the signal (at the weakest level)—but after 10 seconds, the signal is lost and the phone starts searching for the carrier again...

Everything else works normally (WiFi, etc.), and I can use it as a "Skype" phone, listen to music, and surf the web.

My OS is 3.1.2 (with 05.11.07 baseband).

I tried the following (without success):

• Doing full restore with DFU mode on clean iTunes
• Opening the iPhone and making sure no cables are loose
• Switching off 3G

Does anyone have any advice? What else could I try?

I have plugged in the power to recharge the battery, synced it with iTunes, but it doesn't start at all.

I would appreciate any suggestions/solutions pertaining to this problem.

iPhone 3G loses signal randomly and for no obvious reason, everything else works just fine.

• Until a few days ago the phone has never been dropped. Then it was dropped from about 1 meter, twice...
• The phone is just over 1 year old

• Waiting
  • Nothing..
• Rebooting
  • Brings service back for a while
• Activating and deactivating flight mode
  • Brings service back for a while
• Re-seating sim-card
  • Brought back service initially, but didn't solve problem

1. Loose cable?
   • I don't see how that fits in. I mean, re-booting gets the service back. If it was a loose cable it shouldn't help to re-boot..
2. ??
3. My observations indicate that the phone is only ever on 3G network. Could the problem be in or around the UMTS chip?
   • Considering logic board replacement or contacting someone doing BGA soldering.

Yesterday I changed the whole dock assembly to see if that could fix the problem.

Today it lost connection again. So it didn't work.

Now I'm considering to get a new iPhone or doing a logicboard replacement on this one.. Also I could find someone local that does BGA soldering and ask them to find the chip that has to be loose on the logicboard...

Either that or I'll decide that I can't afford it because I just bought an iPad....

I also added a third theory.

I've now noticed that there 'lines' at the bottom of the screen - I assume this is possibly due to a dodgy connection to the LCD matrix?

1. Do you think it's fixable [no other visible 'damage' to the screen?

2. or is it possible damage to the logic board?

The 'lines' are on every screen and have the same colour - dark blue? They are even getting longer, though I don't use the phone now?

I didn't see any guides tackling this particular issue: My on/off switch is not working. I'm ready to change carriers, and I need to turn my iPhone on/off a lot during jailbreak/unlock.

When I apply pressure to it, it simply doesn't turn off. I'm thinking some lever is not making contact or something?

What is this system like, and is it worth trying to fix it myself? Or should I just get a new phone?

I have some news for the people whose Wi-Fi is not working.

I tried many things and now have more concrete facts about this problem.

My Wi-Fi can't find any networks.

First, I thought that the problem was the Wi-Fi antenna.

On eBay there are many "Wi-Fi antennas". All the vendors tell that this antenna http://www.traderscity.com/board/userpix... handles the Wi-Fi, but it is not the right one.

I disconnected the cable mentioned above and Wi-Fi was still working. Only the GPS stopped working, so the Wi-Fi antenna must be somewhere else.

I think that this part http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sk... handles the Wi-Fi and the 3G. I changed the part, but the phone was still not finding any networks so I thought that the Wi-Fi chip on the logic board may be broken.

I wanted to make another test so I installed the jailbroken app called "mywii". With this app you can open a ad hoc network with your phone. The app works, so the Wi-Fi chip is not broken.

In conclusion, the Wi-Fi antenna and chip are working fine, but phone is not finding any networks. This is very strange. I have no idea what the problem can be, but its not the antenna and not the Wi-Fi chip.

I also tried resetting network settings, as well as updating and restoring the phone, but nothing works.
