iPhone 1st Generation: Error code number 23 when trying to restore iPhone?

Ok, so I asked about this iPhone before I received it. When I got it, I plugged it into the wall and I got was the Apple emblem with a black background. So I plugged it into itunes, it downloaded the software, then when it tried to restore it, it said an unknown error occurred. Number 23 to be exact. I also want to add that there is a gray line across the screen on the bottom..? Bad logic board or is there something else I can try first?

iPhone 1st Generation: Which of the three Mainboard-Connectors is for the Touch-Sensor?

After disassembling my 8 gig 1st Gen iPhone in order to replace the broken glass and digitizer I found my Touch-Sensor not working anymore.

So I redid the whole procedure and it worked without a glitch, for about 3 hours...

Since everything besides the touch-recognition works I think it might be a faulty connection from the digitzier to the logicboard.

Does anybody know which one of the mainboard-connectors is responsible for what task? I named the connectors as follows ;)

the one on the side of dock-connector (with the black clamp)

the really annoying small one on the camera-side

the bigger one on the side of the camera.

iPhone 1st Generation: How do I use a SIM-less original iPhone as an iPod Touch?

Hello! I've got a SIM-less 1st gen iPhone with the latest OS that is stuck on the "emergency call" initial screen and that iTunes refuses to deal with. I have a customer who would like to buy it for use as an iPod Touch-equivalent device. This question has been asked before, and I realize that I need to jailbreak/unlock this phone in order to get iTunes to see it without a working SIM, but I've spent 3 hours applying various jailbreak apps with no real success. They all either hang, claim incompatibility with my phone or the OS or whatever variation of the firmware they are attempting to apply, etc. Replies to this question have all been generic "unlock your iPhone" or "jailbreak your iPhone"...is there someone who has actually done this who can provide more specific instructions, i.e. what app, what version, steps involved, etc.? Please note, it's not possible to use the easier jailbreak methods (i.e. jailbreakme.com) with this phone, because it is stuck on the initial screen and therefore needs an external application to do the work.

I wouldn't normally post a question such as this, but considering that original iPhones are increasingly impractical as phones, but are still useful when recycled as iPod-like devices, I think it's an issue that is not going to go away and might as well be solved.

Thanks!

iPhone 1st Generation: Repair water damage

A little over a year ago my iPhone stopped working, so I brought it to Apple and they told me it had water damage. I have since replaced it with a 3G, but want to see whether its worth fixing the 1G. If I plug it in to a dual ac/usb plug it powers up and seems fine except for the back button. Once I unplug it, it automatically powers down. If I try to plug it in with a regular AC power adapter, it will not power up at all. It also says 'Repair needed: iPhone cannot make or receive calls. www.apple.com/support' when it does power up. Any ideas on were I should start in trying to troubleshoot what needs replacement?

iPhone 1st Generation: One of the antenna cables cutted and solded. No WiFi connectivity.

Hello.

Few days ago, the sim tray of mi old iPhone stuck inside, so I had to disassemble it.

I had a lot of problems to do it, and, in the proccess I cut one of the antenna cables, the one that is connected in the middle of the antenna ribbon sheet.

Edited: Read the actual situation below the first image.

The cable is cutted very closed to the metal cable support in the side of the phone (see the arrow in the photo), and I'm afraid that if the cable make contact with the support, the comunications board (or something else) could be damaged.

What do you think there is the best solution for this problem? maybe cut the cable in the other side of the metal support, and replace this fragment with a new cable?

Thank you very much for the help!

Edited:

I've read that the two wired are "the same", they are connected to each other and connect the comunications board with the antenna ribbon and the rear case.

I've solder the cutted cable and I've check with a tester the connectivity between the comunications board (1 and 2), the antenna ribbon (the two connectors) (3 and 4) and the rear case (5), all ok. The points are marked in the image.

See the image in full size

The problem is that I don't have WiFi connectivity. The GSM coverage is fine, but none the Wifi.

I have the phone disassemble, and I have connected the parts with a wire.

Any suggestions about the Wifi coverage?

iPhone 1st Generation: How do I unlock?

I have an iPhone 2G 8GB currently on firmware 3.1.3 and on baseband 04.05.04_G

First of all I live in Canada, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

My carrier is Bell.

My phone is jailbroken, tried several different ones; redsn0w, blackra1n, Pwnage... I've tried to unlock several different times mostly using Bootneuter 2.1

I've tried both bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6

The phone will work with Rogers. My SIM will work on 3G's.

What is it that's not working here? Is it my Sim is too new for the 2G (which shouldn't be the case since the other Roger's sims work) or does Bell not support the 2G? I've spent hours and hours trying every possible combination. Tried to use Fuzzyband 4.1 to downgrade the baseband, but couldn't find an early enough version that would work.

Please.. if you have any suggestions, let me know, because I'm out of ideas and think I may either have to switch carriers, or be stuck with a glorified iPod Touch.
