iPhone 12 mini: Phone is alive but no display.

So I have an iPhone 12 mini and for the past hour or two I have noticed that if you put it to sleep when you wake it the screen doesn't power up. It still vibrates if you toggle the mute switch, plug it in, etc. and a force restart would fix it. Now the device is just on a black screen. Still vibrating and all but just won't illuminate. It did get submerged in a pool for a bit earlier today so I fear water damage but I don't have any tools so I am unable to check the LCIs due to me being on vacation. Everything is OEM and original and it has never been open and the cameras aren't cloudy so I don't think that it is water ingress (this display has been acting weird ever since I first got the phone) but I wouldn't be surprised. I do have backups but really can't afford a display or logic board. Still shows up in Finder.

Edit: So now the screen has powered on but it has a deep maroon/blood red color and touch doesnt work anymore. Taking it to a shop to replace it. later. Will update.

iPhone 12 mini: Why is my phone screen black after I got a bit of water in it?

I was showering and I decided to play some music. Then I left the phone on the sink but I picked it up when I was showering because I didn't like the song. Dropped the showerhead and the water flung at my phone. Went into speaker and charger port. After, it wouldn't let me charge my phone. No problem. But after a couple of hours, 3 or so, my phone started getting this green dim on black backgrounds and it had black/white flickering lines throughout. Then finally, this green gradient blob thing appeared on my screen and everything was dark, so I power off my phone and when I turn it back on, I can hear the vibrations meaning the phone is probably on but everything is BLACK! Help. I need the phone, tomorrow is school & if I don't get the phone I'm doomed!!

iPhone 12 mini: TrueDepth camera not working after water damage, any hope?

So, while I was at the Dutch quadrennial hackercamp MCH2022, I unfortunately dropped my phone in the water while swimming. Usually not such as big deal, well, except that I had gotten my battery replaced a month prior. I had it done at Apple officially, hoping that it would still be water proof (I knew very well that it might not have been, but they didn't tell me and I kind of expected the official repair to still retain waterproofness, but ah well). Well in any case, it did get water damaged.

Now that I'm home, I'm attempting to see if I can salvage the phone (replacement already bought for the time being and it was insured anyway), and I got it working nearly perfectly again (just need to clean the volume up button), just not Face ID (the TrueDepth camera).

I'm not scared of a challange, and my insurance already covered the damage anyway. My contract is ending late August, and September is new iPhone month as well. So I'm not really too concerned if I break it further, would be a shame obviously but not the end of the world. So I figured, is there any hope I can get FaceID to work again? It's still the original sensor anyway.

Fun fact: during the water damage, the battery got reported as non-original, but now that it's opened and I've cleaned the connectors etc. it's reporting as an original part again.

Edit: too few details, here's some more:

Settings -> Info -> Face ID "Problem" message

Front camera is working fine

Message "Face ID is not available" popped up

Then I made the stupid decision to reset the Face ID settings, leaving them grayed out. Performing a recovery restore now.

Edit 2: more testing, the dot projector isn't working.

iPhone 12 mini: Replacement screen uses more power?

I have this 12 mini iPhone that I crushed the screen on... So I bought a (cheap Chinese OLED) replacement screen and installed it myself, but it seems like my battery life is much worse now.

It is an OLED, but is it possible that the cheap OLED's are taking more battery power than the original screen? It's not really a battery "drain"... If I don't use the phone it's fine, but if I use the phone, the battery dies quicker than it had.

Thought that I might have overheated the battery while trying to remove the old screen, but it still shows 100% in settings. How accurate is that?

Also updated to iOS 16.0 around then, and maybe I am just using it more, but up until I broke the screen, I was majorly impressed with the battery life, now... not so much.

I'm sure there will be no definitive answer and anything is possible, but I was just curious if anyone else had a similar experience.

iPhone 12 mini: iPhone antenna band with dent on it

I tried searching high and low for an answer with no luck.

My question is about iPhone antenna bands. From what I’ve learned, they allow signals to enter and exit iPhone casing. What I couldn’t find is whether they “transfer” anything themselves.

Why I’m asking is because of the classic situation of dropping the phone and the fall left a dent in upper right antenna band. So, will having antenna band with dent effect iPhone’s functionality (or signal strength) in any way or is the damage just purely cosmetic?

So, I followed the iFixit tutorial along with a few YouTube videos and the manual included in the replacement kit I bought (from Amazon). Even though this was my first attempt, without feeling too confident, I thought I might be able to pull this off, and get myself a "brand" new iPhone 12 mini for the cost a few dozen bucks.

Separating the screen from the device was pretty much a nightmare, and I knew from the comments I needed to be patient with it, so I took my time; heated up the edges, tried to apply succion, etc. Eventually I pulled it off.

But it was only an hour or so later that I realized something was odd. The inside of my iPhone 12 mini wasn't looking exactly like the pictures I saw online, so I tried figuring out the puzzle.

Turns out, somehow I managed to separate (I think?) the display from the display frame, which stayed on the rest of the device. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Don't really know how it happened — FYI, this is a refurbished iPhone 12 mini, so likely been opened up before, which may have added to the difficulty.

I've already changed the battery and tried to power up my iPhone, but alas, it's a black screen so far with occasional vertical stripes of green lights, as if there was falsy contact (I don't think the screen is broken though, but again, I may be wrong). When I try to turn on the iPhone, taptic engine seems to be responsive and my Apple Watch recognizes the phone as being on, despite the unresponsive screen.

I've included photos of how it's currently looking so you get a better understanding of my situation.

Would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you!

iPhone 12 mini: Missing Sensor(s): TG0B and TG0V

I recently had my iPhone 12 Mini battery replaced after it started having issues less than 2 years after purchase (brand new) as it stopped holding charge, was giving me the "non-genuine/not working properly" warning, and kept restarting every 3 minutes. After being replaced by a certified repair shop, it worked for about 2 weeks before it started exhibiting many of the same signs. Took it in for diagnostic, and it was showing an error with the wireless charger presence. I took it upon myself to get a panic log reader. The errors I'm getting is "no successful checking from thermalmonitord" and "Missing Sensor(s): TG0B and TG0V".

I know one of these sensors is the battery (it's a certified replacement) and the other is for the charging flex. Is this something an Apple Store could replace for me?Or are they going to insist on a whole new phone or just replacing the battery?

iPhone 12 mini: iPhone 12 Mini - True tone restore

English:
Hi everybody,

I have an iPhone Mini 12 and want to restore the true tone feature, since it doesn't have an original display.
The display itself ist not showing true black colour. It is rather a dark green-ish and flickering between black and this green, when display brightness is at a lower level.

I bought myself a Qianli iCopy Plus 2.2 and I'm a little confused about the board not showing any signs of a connector for the iphone 12 display.
Is it, that the display of an iP 12 has the same connectors as some of the older models or did I purchase the wrong device?

Kind reagrds!

Deutsch:

Moin zusammen!
