iPhone 12 mini: No cell service but wifi and bluetooth fine. How to diagnose?

I have a damaged iphone 12 mini I’m trying to repair. It had been dropped and both front screen and rear glass were cracked. I have swapped the chassis and a fitted a new aftermarket screen. All seems to work except I get no cell service (no signal bars, no identification of msisdn in settings, and nothing helpful in field service mode). Wifi, gps and bluetooth are fine and the phone detects when the sim is present or not. The sim works fine in another iphone. Any suggestions on diagnosing if this is an antenna issue, a main board fault, or something else?

iPhone 12 mini: Battery Overheats and Quickly Discharges

My phone died and when charged it would not turn on after leaving it overnight. I took it apart and tested the battery ribbon cable and it read no voltage. I took the battery apart and measured at the battery terminals and it read 3.6v. I can read accross the ribbon cable and battery terminals and it looks like both sides of the ribbon cable have a positive voltage.

I bought a new battery and it powered up fine, but quickly got very warm and started to die very quickly. I plugged it in, powered it off, and left it overnight. I was not able to turn it on the next day. The new battery does now not ready anything accross the sides of the ribbon cable end. I havn't taken this battery apart yet.

Does this mean that the phone is damaging the ribbon cables (drawing too many amps) from a bridge in the phone itself. Any ideas?

Thanks

I was trying to repair my flashlight, but I accidentally cut this cable. I’m wondering what its function is.

and I even replaced the flashlight with a new one, but it still doesn’t work. Is there any specific reason for that?

iPhone 12 mini: Little metal pin broken off

Hi everyone.

I found out today that a small metal pin on the bottom of my iphone broke off. It doesn't seem to affect the phone at all, but can someone explain to me what it's for?

I can see that it was supposed to touch a dot on the back of the screen.

I have marked the small metal pin in yellow at the bottom of the phone.

I hope you can help me answer this question, thanks

iPhone 12 mini: screen replacement - only some screen

I’ve been trying to replace the screen on my iPhone 12 mini. I bought two replacement screens from Amazon and two from eBay. Here’s what happened:

One screen had a good display, but the touch didn’t work.

One screen showed nothing at all—completely blank.

One showed the Apple logo, then went black.

One just displayed colored lines.

At this point, I was going crazy.

Then I happened to get another iPhone 12 mini. I tested the screen that was previously totally blank on the new phone—and it worked perfectly! The display and touch were fully functional. So I went back and tried the same screen on the original phone again, but still just a blank screen.

I should mention: the original iPhone 12 mini did have a semi-working screen before I started. The display was mostly fine, but it had two vertical green and yellow lines running top to bottom.

So now I’m wondering—what could be wrong with the first iPhone 12 mini that’s preventing it from working with the replacement screens?

Would you like help diagnosing the issue, too?

iPhone 12 mini: Top layer of iPhone 12 mini OLED screen starting to peel off

Hi everyone,

I have an iPhone 12 mini, and I’ve noticed that the top layer of the OLED screen is starting to detach in one corner. Just to clarify, I’m not using any screen protector — it’s the actual screen itself that’s coming apart. The display still works perfectly with no dead pixels or touch issues.

It seems like only the outermost layer is separating slightly from the rest of the screen. The phone hasn’t been dropped or exposed to water.

I’ve attached an image where you can clearly see the peeling area.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Could this get worse over time?

Is it possible to repair or replace just that top layer, or would I need to replace the whole OLED display?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

iPhone 12 mini: Why isn't my iPhone screen working?

So basically I had showered with my phone in the bathroom but it was fine when I got out. It just had died so I went to go charge it and it stopped working. It went completely black then for some reason was starting to develop zig zags? Or patterns? Idk if you could see it in the picture but yeah. I'm guessing maybe it was a power struck because the house is old. (My mom's house btw) Or maybe water got in it? But I checked it and there was no red light. The phone charged and buzzes but just doesn't turn on. I tried to reset it and it didn't work.

iPhone 12 mini: 🔹 Help! Stuck in Face ID & Stolen Device Service Lock Loop

Hello,

I was replacing the battery on my iPhone 12 while following the iFixit guide. Unfortunately, the guide didn’t mention that OLED replacement screens for this model can be significantly thicker than the previous models.

As a result, when I tried to open the phone, I mistakenly started prying between the layers of the screen itself instead of between the screen and the frame. That ended up damaging the display.

Later, when I replaced the screen, I noticed that the proximity sensor was also damaged, and now Face ID no longer works.

To make things worse, Stolen Device Service has been activated, and I can’t disable it without working Face ID. So I’m stuck in a loop — I can’t fix or access anything critical, and I can’t turn off the security feature either.

I’d really appreciate any advice from the iFixit team or community on what I can do next. This all happened while following the iFixit guide, and a small note about the screen thickness could have prevented it.

Thank you!
