iPhone 12 Pro Max: iPhone back glass laser machines?

I’ve been considering buying an iPhone back glass laser machine, but I’m having a hard time justifying the cost when I don’t have many customers asking for back glass repair. I’ve made mistakes in the past where I’ve splurged on machinery that rarely got use because I thought that by offering a service, people would come- only for Apple to flip the script and change designs. However, I’d wager that Apple will continue the back glass design rather than switch wood or something simply for the fact that it’s profitable to have an external indicator that your device has been abused.

Q 1. The machines I’ve seen in the market say they work with iPhone 8- iPhone 13, so my train of thought is this: If I spend $1,500 on one of these machines, it will take two years to pay for itself. Can laser machines be updated to service the iPhone 14, 15 and beyond?

Q 2. Are there other uses for these laser machines? If I could fix more than just iPhone back glass that would really seal the deal.

Q 3. Which laser machine to buy? There’s so many different models available, that shopping for one is exhausting. I’ve seen bare-bones machines for around $1200 which requires a laptop to run it, and I’ve seen other fancy models with touchscreens from $1,500-$2,000. For those of you that own laser machines, are there particular models that you like? That you would avoid?

iPhone 12 Pro Max: iPhone 12 pro max rebooting issue

I was made aware of this issue after repair so have no idea if this was happening before parts were replaced.

Replaced screen, battery (BMS was transferred), back glass, rear camera unit.

Lots of variables here but they are all high quality parts, camera being genuine

Now when using the phone there isn't an issue but when its put on charge every couple of minutes (random), the phone will shut off and reboot.

I am quite new to panic reports but my first suspicion was the charging port or battery. iDevice panic log shows NAND or I2C3 as the issue.

However after analysing the log it seems to me that this is the screen? A timeout for display device eeprom?

Maybe after reprogramming true tone it got damaged in some way? Or just a faulty unit?

All I wanted to ask if anyone has had a similar issue or is able to decipher what the issue is from the panic log. I believe @flannelist is the expert but any help will be greatly appreciated!

iPhone 12 Pro Max: LiDAR sensor not working - is it the sensor or a board problem?

I recently stumbled upon an iPhone 12 Pro Max with an broken LiDAR sensor. The “measure’’ app instantly freezes, and no 3D scanning app detects input from the sensor. All other components in the phone work great and all camera’s work in their normal modes. There also isn’t any excessive power drain or heat generation like sometimes happens with shorts. It also boots normally. I did order a replacement LiDAR sensor, but it will take a while for it to arrive. However, I am currently wondering if it could be related to the power circuit on the mainboard. There’s of course always a chance that it is an board related problem, but how likely is it that it’s an board problem?

iPhone 12 Pro Max: iPhone 12 pro max no WiFi, Bluetooth, or cellular data

Hi there, I'm trying to save my phone that's been giving me serious trouble. Initially, these restart episodes only happened occasionally - maybe once every few weeks - and when the phone was working properly, everything functioned perfectly.

I tried updating to iOS 26 and also updated my Apple Watch, but the phone became even more unstable with constant restarts. I had to keep power cycling it, so I rolled back to iOS 18.5, which stabilized things. Even then, I had to restart the phone dozens of times just to get WiFi options to appear when signing into iCloud. However, now my Apple Watch won't pair anymore (and I've completely lost NFC functionality - the phone just doesn't detect it at all, though I can live without this since I can always use my Apple Watch for payments).

After two weeks, I attempted installing iOS 26 beta 6 from iOS 18.5 (I had previously tried iOS 26 beta 2), hoping the issues might be resolved, but the same problems returned - shutdowns followed by complete connectivity loss. I've since downgraded to iOS 18.6 since 18.5 is no longer supported.

My theory is that overheating triggers the shutdowns, which somehow disables the network radios. Sometimes while listening to music through Bluetooth, after a few minutes the phone would shut down, but after 2-5 attempts of turning the phone back on, the connections would return - as if the phone needed to be hot for the connections to work properly. I suspect the WiFi antenna might be causing the resets, so I've ordered a replacement and want to attempt the repair myself. However, I'm struggling with the disassembly.

From YouTube tutorials, the component I need to access should come off with the screen assembly, but mine doesn't seem to work that way. There's also this additional metal frame surrounding the phone that's blocking access to screws (like a metal cover over the camera module). Is this standard on all iPhones, or some kind of water damage protection?

I'd really appreciate guidance on which screws to remove or a link to a proper tutorial. The last time the phone restarted on iOS 26 beta 6, it was just sitting on my desk, and when I saw the Apple logo appear and realized it had restarted itself, I knew I was in for a rough few days ahead. I simply can't afford to have random restarts where I lose access to cellular data and WiFi, forcing me to restart the phone ten or even hundreds of times. I'm trying to repair it myself because I think the repair costs would gradually exceed the phone's actual value. If I can't manage to fix it, unfortunately I'll have to buy a new one.

Thanks in advance for any tips and advice that will help me repair the phone! Have a great weekend! (Sorry for the photo quality - taken with an iPhone 6s Plus while trying to repair his older brother.)

iPhone 12 Pro Max: Face-id not working, non-original screen, no visible damage

Hello, I recently got an iPhone 12 pro max off eBay with a horrible quality aftermarket display. This meant iOS 16 wasn't working so the seller sold it to me as broken. I reverted it back to iOS 15.6 to get the screen working again but now the face-id says it's unavailable.

The seller swears it was working for him on iOS 15. The ambient light sensor works, 3utools says the front camera is original and I can see the ir light when trying to take a portrait selfie. However this also does not detect my face (keeps saying move further away). I am not sure if the ear piece was replaced but this seems unlikely since you buy a display without it normally? Could it still show the ir light even with a replaced ear-piece? Any way to fix face-id? I tried resetting restoring and everything. Face-id was also not working on iOS 16.3 (used voiceover to confirm that).

iPhone 12 Pro Max: Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery.

I bought an iPhone 12 Pro Max on Facebook Marketplace and I was in a hurry and didn't check the unit properly, when I get home I stumbled this message "Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery."

Does it mean the battery of this iPhone got replaced with non-genuine product? And how can I fix get rid of this message? I'm planning to resell it but I need to fix the battery problem first.

The seller deleted his Facebook profile so I couldn't return this iPhone. Thanks for your help in advance.
