iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd Gen: USB C Port Replaced, Only charges with one cable orientation

I just successfully replaced a worn-out USB C port in my iPad Pro 12.9" - 3rd Gen. However, when I try any combination of Apple/3PP cables and adapters, the device will only charge with one orientation of the cable. My iPhone 15 Pro charges on all of the same setups in both orientations.

It was my understanding that USBC port were all bi-directional and should charge regardless of cable orientation. Is this an errant install on my part? Would there be such a thing as a USBC port that only charges in one direction?

Is it possible that there is a component on the actual logic board or connection between the port and logic board that would preclude charging with an 'upside down' placement?

iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd Gen: Help! Stuck in recovery mode after failed transfer, no Mac detection.

a perfectly functioning iPad Pro 12.9, one which I used daily before 7 days ago trying to give it to my father-in-law. I factory reset it and spent a day trying to wirelessly transfer his older iPad onto it without success - got stuck at the updating page every time. I then tried to set it up as a new iPad - worked, no problem.

I tired again using my Mac and Finder to transfer and restore a backup of my FIL’s iPad onto it… failed a few times with errors without any specific code.

Then I tried to use Apple Configurator, this time failed with two error codeS

Now it’s stuck in recovery/restore mode without my or any Mac being able to detected it (tried different cables, USB-C and USB with an adapter). Couldn’t not get it into DFU mode either.

Apple Genius tells me the port on iPad is broken, but the iPad detects the cable and connection and turns on each time it connects to a computer. I refuse to believe a software transfer attempt broke something hardware (especially when there was no problem in the wireless transfer mode too)

What should I do / try next, my ingenious community?

iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd Gen: Help identifying ripped cable on iPad screen (top edge)

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a parted screen assembly on eBay, there is a ripped flex cable on this screen assembly located at the very top edge of the display assembly.

It is not one of the main display or digitizer cables, although the LCD has defects likely from heat, I’ve connected the screen and both the LCD and touch functions are still mostly functional, and these cable connects at the bottom of the screen... I believe this cable is also separate from the main Face ID and TrueDepth Camera assembly flex, as the repair guide shows them as separate assemblies.

The rip is on the thin flex that runs along the top of bezel, could anyone help me identify what does cable is and what function it serves?

Thank you all in advance,

iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd Gen: Stuck in recovery mode and fails to recover

I purchased an ipad pro 3rd gen that I was told had been factory reset during an update which put it into recovery mode. I attempted to to fix it by using itunes with different cables and different devices as well as took it to 2 different repair stores. All have said they don't know what's wrong with it. I started to use 3UTools to try force loading older updates thinking that the issue was i wasn't trying to restore and update it to the same one that caused the restore mode. This however still did not work, it continues to fail around the same point however, when it says "AMRestorePerformRestoreModeRestoreWithError" when it is attempting to restore the nand chip. I'm at the point where I just want to replace the chip but I don't know where to get one or how to replace it. Can anyone help me?

iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd Gen: Lines Across Screen after repair

I had a charging issue (still not fixed) but I replaced the charging port and battery as a start. After putting parts back together and powering up I noticed missing lines at the bottom of my screen.

If I bump the display cables at the left of the screen I can see them bounce in and out. The backlight works, the touch still works. Just missing the information.

Do you think it’s possible to fix this without replacing the screen? It seems like it’s a ribbon issue or even just that it’s not connected properly on the screen side of the cable.
