iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd gen: Why are the iPad Pro 12.9” 2nd Gen screens so expensive?

I am trying to source a replacement screen for an iPad Pro 12.9” 2nd gen (1670). The prices are beyond outrageous often costing as much or more than buying another device refurbished or used. The lowest I’ve seen is around $350 or so. A came across a couple of ads from small repair shops claiming to do glass only repairs, but even they charge over $300.

In comparison, the same size 1st Gen screens are practically given away, selling for around $150 to $200. What makes the 2nd gen prices go from outrageous to absurd, is the cost of the 3rd Gen screens. These are the latest models and you can find them for around $300 and sometimes less!

What’s going on here? I’m hoping the prices come down to earth, but I’m not holding my breath, given the equally absurd prices for older Retina MacBook Pro displays.

iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd gen: Boot loop with weird lines on screen

Hey everyone.

I have an iPad Pro that my brother gave to me (he bought the new one) and have been using it happily for over a year.

I'll say straight up that this has not been dropped, knocked or gotten wet. I am very anal about my gadgets. I don't damage things.

Suddenly the other night it froze while my wife was using a planning app (5D something) and the whole screen was green and magenta blocks and lines.

I did a force reboot of it and now it's stuck in some kind of boot loop.

It goes like this:

The iPad goes to the normal Apple logo screen. There are no glitches or artifacts on this screen. It looks as normal. It goes to the black screen and back to this over and over.

If I hold the sleep and home buttons down it starts to do what you would expect when doing this and resets and then goes to the apple logo again except this time you get the loading line under the logo for a second before that disappears and the whole screen gets covered in lines and blocks. These can be blue, magenta, green or black (so far, maybe it can do other colours).

I've forced it into recovery mode using iTunes and I've let the battery go completely flat.

I repair things regularly but have no experience of Apple devices, and from what exp I have had I've found them far too much trouble to bother with but I got this for nothing and I actually like it.

Chances are it's totally borked but if anyone has seen this or has any idea how to fix it I'd love to try. Seems to me like it's not a bad connection with the screen because the initial Apple logo screen and the screen you see when the iPad needs charging all look fine.

Am loathe to take it to Apple as I'm sure the answer will either be "It's out of warranty so tough luck" or "Nothing can be done, buy a new one".

Very comfortable with opening things up and soldering etc. so happy to try that.

Thanks in advance.

iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd gen: I accidently dropped my boyfriends ipad and the screen is broken

Hello everyone,

Well I was carrying the ipad inside my back pack accidently dropped my backpack and it had that logitech case with keyboard. which did not protect it. I opened it there were huge spider webs and one big hole on one side. Still works, turns on, I can write on it. But I want to replace the screen for him since it was my fault. So my question is if I try to fix it myself is there any soldering that has to be done? I have fixed macbooks and iphones but soldering is not my thing. I wanted to know if there was another way to fix it or is that a must do step. Thank you for reading my long post. And hoping for a quick reply. =D

Forgot to mention the glass is shattered

No soldering needed. I saw this video that it said if you don’t know how to micro solder stop right here and get it repaired somewhere else. Also if I get the screen here would be an Apple refurbished or third party? Worried about the True Tone and range of colors.

iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd gen: Ghost touch on top right side of screen

Bought a used ipad pro and thought I checked it out pretty well before purchase but not well or long enough apparently, (I've bought cracked iPads in the past with no issue so this took me by surprise and I'm wondering if the fact the ipad pro is more sensitive plays into it)

It has a small less than an inch crack in the top right corner which is where I think the ghost touch is coming from, it effects about one inch down and goes to the mid point of ipad, I normally throw up split screen and an app that it can play without distracting me from my work but I'm hoping to get it fixed soon

Wondering if this a digitizer issue, a wire issue, or a faulty processor?

iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd gen: Is my iPad dead or display not working?

Yesterday my ipad pro 12.9 2nd gen screen turned black. I tried hard restart several times, but to no avail. I plugged into the computer it doesnt recognize it, but mind you i have never plugged it in to a computer before. so I dont know if would recognize it.

I found a program on the internet that does diagnostic repairs and what not. I had the iPad connected to the computer and tried to put it in recovery mode and the screen goes brighter (a faded white screen with a black border) and the program did recognize it was a ipad pro 12.9 2nd gen, but iTunes does not recognize it. So I'm not sure if that means anything

Everything was working just fine before my screen went black. The touchscreen, home button, sleep/wake button, its fully charged 100%, etc.

I can still see a faded back up light when I press the home button or sleep/wake button when the room is pitch black. I went to the apple store and they said it wasnt giving off charge only a 1/10th of the power.

I'm not sure if it's the ipad is dead or display is gone or maybe i0s problem?

I cant even get the apple logo its completely dead. The battery as it shut off was about 18% and it was plugged into the mains while I was using it. The back of the ipad was warm but not hot.
