iPad Mini 2 LTE: No (or very low) charging, after battery replacement

EDITED: Extremely slow charging, after I installed an iFixit battery replacement.

Note that the slow or semi-random charging had been present prior to the battery update, and began when the iPad last upgraded to some version of ios 12. (approx. a year of bad charging behavior, where it would jump from 4% to 100 % in a very short time.)

Initially, after the battery upgrade, it appeared to be stone dead - screen NOT lighting up at all. Left it on a charger for a couple of days, still nothing.

Connected it to a Mac MINI, and when I pressed the button, the device came on! but it showed 1 or 2 % power. The Mac MINI said that the device was “drawing too much power”, and I should disconnect it. Put it back on a charger for several days. It climbed to a staggering 4% battery level. Everything appears to work, touch screen, buttons, etc. Except for the sad state of charging.

Any obvious culprits?

iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: Why does my retina display not turn on after battery replacement?

The battery in my old Ipad Mini 2 Wifi w/retina display only lasted about 1-2 hours and it sometimes got stuck in mode where battery indicator appeared but didn’t charge. I decided to get the ifixit battery replacement kit. I followed the 55 step instructions to remove the battery and did the reverse to install new battery (note that I did turn it off first and I did disconnect the battery first). Now everything seems to work except for the retina display (the backlight seems to work but not the lcd display - nothing shows up when shining a bright light on it). I have tried the following with no luck and am looking for any other suggestions:

Charged new battery for over 8 hours

Re-started multiple times by holding power button and home button

Tried disconnecting the battery, touch screen and lcd connectors and re-connecting

Connected to iTunes on my PC (note that I had to guess where the number keypad was on my screen in order to unlock the Ipad. I did back up the Ipad on my PC just before starting the repair). ITunes says the battery is at 97% or so.

Used iTunes to reload the software (I have not yet tried to “restore”)

Locate Ipad using apple “find my” app from my phone and get Ipad to make sound

Tried Siri - she responded when I said “hey siri” but does not respond to questions after that.

I’m wondering whether I damaged a wire or connector or the LCD beyond repair (I didn’t see any damage but these parts are rather small). Any hope of getting LCD to work? Thank you!

iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: LCD panel stops working after lock screen

My Ipad Mini 2 LCD panel crapped out just after warranty expired. I replaced the panel based on the instructions here. Things were great. Device worked fine for a long period of months.

Not sure if this is causal or coincidental, but the device took an iOS update (Honestly, I cant remember which one) and I started experiencing the problem that follows:

LCD/backlight and digitizer work fine upon hard reset. After login, everything still works fine.

Locking the screen appears to work appropriately (screen dims).

However when coming out of the lock screen, the LCD fails to show an image. The backlight appears to be working as it is an illuminated black screen. The device is still operating - you can interact with both the digitizer and the home button (if you can guess where to touch without images on the screen). And you can hear the appropriate sounds coming out of the device.

Nothing resolves this state short of a hard reset. Disabling the lock screen entirely keeps the ipad working, but is less than ideal.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is this a hardware error or a software error? The panel worked fine for a long period prior to the iOS update.

If it is a hardware error, I would be okay with picking up a new panel, but I just want some insight prior to swapping the panel out again.

Hi all,

I have an iPad mini 2 which randomly either takes screenshots when I press the home button or displays ‘slide to power off’ screen. I realise that these both point towards a stuck or intermittent power button but I have replaced this and also replaced the digitizer to rule that out. Unfortunately it’s still the same.
iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: White haze or fog on screen

Using the iPad on zoom meeting, suddenly the screen turned white. I performed restart but did not fix it. If it Is left on and not locked , the white fog shaped as a rectangle with round edges in the center, gets smaller but there is still a faint haze. The iPad was dropped more than 3 weeks ago but did not show any problem only until this time. Is the hazy screen due to the drop, or something else?
iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: Glitchy Horizontal Lines on Screen when Hot

I will just say iPad for short but it’s an iPad mini 2.

I’ve had this iPad for about 7 years, and had the LCD screen replaced 3 times. The one I currently have on is about 2 years old.

I have realized these lines come on only when hot. I didn’t do any damage from the outside (it started while I was asleep). It went away for about 24 hours when I turned it off and back on, then I went outside with it and it started again. Which leads me to think it has to do with heat. I do have a cracked screen, but I cracked it months ago. They are very deep cracks, so there is a possibility of water damage on the table. I have heavily used it since breaking it, so it may have a role in it. Also when I first found it like this, the bottom right corner of the screen wouldn’t react to touch. Turning it off and on again fixed that though.
