iPad Air 2 LTE: Faint dark spot on iPad screen from interior "cable burn"

Hi everyone

I have a small faint dark spot on my iPad Air 2 screen. That was unfortunately caused by me accidentally tearing a tiny bit of a cable coating open. A cable like this:

This open cable then burnt/heated up a small spot on the aluminium back panel of the LCD. Which now resulted into this faint dark, barely visible, spot on the screen.

I now covered that open spot up, so it won’t cause any more damage.

It’s hard to capture this on camera, but you can still see it.

My question now is simple:

Can I do anything to fix/smooth out this spot, so it disappears? Without having to replace the whole LCD?

Appreciate all the help, thanks in advance. :-)

iPad Air 2 LTE: Can I put an iPad 5 battery into an iPad Air 2?

Hi folks..

I got three iPads lying around with various defects and I'm trying to make a single properly functioning one out of them.

The iPad Air 2 LTE (A1567) has a near-dead battery

The iPad 5th's (A1822) screen is cracked and loose every which way

The iPad 7th (A2197), according to the Apple Store has a dead logic board (won't boot / goes into reboot cycle)

Far as I can tell my options are to either repair/replace 7's board or replace the Air 2's battery.

So I was wondering if the apparently different model battery from the iPad 5 would be okay to fit into the Air 2?

(Sorry if it's an obvious 'no way'. Not an expert by any stretch.)

Many thanks

iPad Air 2 LTE: Backlight issue after removal of lcd

Hi. I’m trying to expand my knowledge to separating glass and LCD. I have heating plate with suction and wire to separate the screen and lcd. I put the screen from the iPad Air 2 on 80 degrees C. Worked the wire and separated them. Checked the lcd and it was fine. But then I put it on the heater again and used glue tool (spinning stick thing) and then tried to clean with cloth and 99% alcohol. When almost cleaned I checked it again and this time it seemed like the backlight has broken. It’s sort of more dim on certain areas. Not so noticeable when colors are present, but on a white screen it’s terrible. Trying to post pic but doesn’t work. What in the process do I fail?

iPad Air 2 LTE: iPad randomly shuts off, can't backup

Over the past several weeks, my iPad has randomly begun shutting off, even when the battery is at 100% and plugged in to the original 12W charger. This initially happened once every few days, and has begun happening more often. Suddenly yesterday it got to the point where it won't stay on for even a couple minutes at a time. When it does shut off, it shows a dead battery screen.

I'm sure this is probably a battery issue, as it currently has 1117 cycles and is at 78% design capacity. What throws me off a bit though is that over half the time when I turn it back on, it shows me the multi-language hello screen and then says software update to 15.8.1 was successful. At first I thought this was a software issue, and it was running 15.7.9 and said as much. However after updating to 15.8.1 it still shows this screen when booting after a random shutdown.

I'm debating if it's even worth replacing the battery, given how old the device is. I've replaced the screen on this iPad before, not the most fun endeavor. I'm hesitant to buy any new Apple devices considering Apple's anti-repair practices, especially now that they're pairing iPhone batteries to logic boards.

In the meantime, I want to back it up so that I can migrate to a new device or not lose everything if I botch a battery swap. The problem is I can't even get it to stay on for long enough to do a backup. I've tried keeping it in airplane mode, and that hasn't helped. Is there anything I can do to get a backup out of it?

Pictured: the white areas are unresponsive to touch on my iPad Air 2

Background: I had my iPad’s cracked screen repaired from a third party. When I first got it back it worked fine, but now the iPad has developed dead lines down the middle of the screen as shown in the picture. It also starts to have ghost touches after I use it for too long.

Can this be a loose ribbon or something that I can fix myself with relative ease?

iPad Air 2 LTE: Will it run without the battery?

The battery is dead. It powers down within a minute or two after I unplug it. I'm concerned that the battery could develop issues, since it's dead and under charge 100% of the time.

Can I just pull the battery from it and reassemble it? I only use it plugged in at the moment. I realize it sounds weird, but it's an old iPad. (It's in the 'old folks home' part of its life) I really don't see using it seriously as a battery powered iPad depending on the battery, so why replace it. I just want it to be 'safe' if the battery decides to swell or overrun. In other words, I can't afford to replace it, and see no need to replace the battery, but would like to keep it working. Long question, I know...

Thanks...

iPad Air 2 LTE: Battery Drain to fast, issue with MESA?

My iPad Air 2 start discharging to fast. After few weeks not touching was completely dead. I was thinking that battery casue that issue so I order brand new and replace.

What I observe, measure:

Tablet is working but my issue with battery drain still present. 1-2hour and its 0%

Charging current is 2-2.5A

Touch ID is not working. Not sure if was working before. Home button function working

Touch screen is working but during charging seem to be less sensitive

All other components are working (display, charging, speakers, cammeras, buttons, wifi, LTE,..)

current consuption when tablet is off is 0.65mA - I think is OK.

when Screen is ON temperature is OK. When Screen is Off then the mettal part in left down corner of dispplay start to be extremly hot

Also STD9307 start to be extremly hot. DOnt understad since this is GND accordign schematics. Looks like shortcut in case that Display is Off.

I Measure MESA component (U4770). PPVCC_MAIN_MESA = 3.7-3,8V. When Screen is OFF the PP11V3_MESA_FILT = 11.3V, PP3V1_S2R_MESA_FILT = 2.5V (accordign schematics should be 3.1V), PP1V825_S2R_MESA_FILT = 1.82V.

When Screen is ON then PP11V3_MESA_FILT = 0V

iPad Air 2 LTE: Can Someone Point Me to the Baseband Resistor That Controls Cellular?

I’m trying to convert an iPad Air 2 LTE to an iPad Air 2 WiFi, in order to do this, you need to physically remove the baseband resistor. For example, the iPad 4 LTE’s baseband resistor is r1204, would the same chip exist on the Air 2 LTE?
