iPad Air 2: Stuck in recovery loop after attempted update.

After the release of ios11 I backed up my iPad on my MacBook Pro and downloaded the update. The update process started, and then the iPad restarted and I got an error in iTunes. The iPad stayed at the Apple logo and wouldn't change. No big deal, I thought. I just backed up. Just restore and go from there.

I did a hard restart, and the iPad loaded to recovery mode with the plug into iTunes information. I plugged it in and iTunes prompted me to restore or update. I tried updating again, which returned with an error 9, and the iPad just restarted to recovery. I tried restoring from a Windows computer with the newest version of iTunes with the same error. Created a new user on my laptop and tried... same error.

Then came DFU mode. iTunes recognizes the iPad, restore starts. The iPad restarts and gives the Apple log and an empty progress bar. iTunes says verifying update, then the iPad restarts, and I get error 9 in iTunes.

At this point I've gone through everything I can find in forums for suggestions, and have even tried some of the apps that claim they can fix these issues. All with no success.

The iPad is cared for pristinely, and has been working flawlessly until this update. Is it bricked for good at this point? Hoping not... can't really afford to replace a perfectly good device.

iPad Air 2: Rectangle surrounds "slide to unlock" & passcode won't work

I've held the home & power buttons down for the 10 seconds recommended, then when boots up there's a rectangular line surrounding the "slide to unlock". When it DOES allow the passcode page to appear (won't always do or takes a lot of time), there's also the same skinny rectangle going from screen edge to edge surrounding the passcode icons that always fill in as passcode is entered; those icons do not "fill in" when passcode is attempted & the # entered is slow to respond or won't respond at all. The circle surrounding the # entered becomes framed by a square, which has never happened in the past. The I-pad will not respond to my passcode & the last time I tried I got that stupid fast-talking-annoying-lady-voice who plagued my I-phone not long ago & caused me to lose all info & had to return phone. Stupidly I don't/didn't even KNOW how to back up my info or pictures & suspect I'm in for a big fat headache/heartache if I have to erase & re-start through I-tunes, if even THAT will work!! Any help gladly welcome.

iPad Air 2 LTE: Faint dark spot on iPad screen from interior "cable burn"

Hi everyone

I have a small faint dark spot on my iPad Air 2 screen. That was unfortunately caused by me accidentally tearing a tiny bit of a cable coating open. A cable like this:

This open cable then burnt/heated up a small spot on the aluminium back panel of the LCD. Which now resulted into this faint dark, barely visible, spot on the screen.

I now covered that open spot up, so it won’t cause any more damage.

It’s hard to capture this on camera, but you can still see it.

My question now is simple:

Can I do anything to fix/smooth out this spot, so it disappears? Without having to replace the whole LCD?

Appreciate all the help, thanks in advance. :-)

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi: My ipad is cracked badly and it’s glitching!

background info:

so a few months back (like 2-3 months) my dad got very mad (unexpected) and my ipad was on the table. he threw my ipad very hard into the floor (and the floor cracked along with my ipad). the corners of one half of the ipad was cracked (the other half wasn’t cracked as badly). and surprisingly and fortunately it still works (everything was normal except my microphone doesn’t work and the camera was blurry bc my mom had to tape near it and it sorta covered it).

so a day or two before, it started acting up. like i tried to unlock my ipad and i pressed one number (passcode) and the ipad itself just started spamming the passcode and i was forced to close it. i tried again and once again the ipad started spamming the passcode numbers and the try again after 1 minute lock came on. so i left it alone cuz i thought it would fix itself after a night. so yesterday morning i opened it, thinking it fixed itself because the passcode part had no problems. then after a few minutes, it started acting up. i went into safari— the search bar just went up and down and up and down (it wasn’t spamming letters it was just the screen). i tried roblox, went into adopt me, the starting screen kept on spamming me, every time i would press no the same question/sign would pop right back up (it’s not supposed to). for ex: it would say do u want to teleport to the hat shop yes or no and i would press no but the same sign kept on popping up so i couldn’t even play. the screen was moving itself. (spamming letters on my keyboard only happened once, just the passcode.)

help me is it just broken? yes i’ve tried shutting it down.

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi: Why did my screen crack on it's own after screen replacement?

2 days ago I left my iPad closed on my bed I left for I think 20 minutes, I come back to open it up and my heart drops... I sort of small crack next to the home button. (I just got it replaced right before summer started) and now this happens? Since the replacement, I've been treating it like a baby and now it cracks all of a sudden? Since it cracked I've been treating it with even more protection and the crack spread, even more, when I tapped the screen 3 hairline cracks appeared one going right one going down the center, and one going to the left, I never dropped it, never left anything on it, it's still functional but I'm afraid it will get worse. I don't want to pay another 600$ Any tips for how I can stop it from spreading or if I can do anything about it?

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi: half of "new" battery swelled up

I ordered a new battery and installation kit for my iPad Air2 a while back. It was sitting in a drawer while I was out of town for a couple weeks and when I went to go use it when I returned I found the device burst open because half of the battery swelled up dramatically. It worked just fine until this happened. Why would only one swell up? installation issue? or just happened that one of the pouches was destined to fail? I checked the warranty period is one year, but of course I ordered it a little over a year and a half ago. It worked great for about a year after I installed it. Any suggestions? just order a new battery again and hope for the best? I would think if it was something I did wrong they would both fail but I don't know.

Update (08/20/25)

Just thought I would add, the iPad was not plugged in while I was away. I don't recall what the state of charge was when I left. I typically charge it up then unplug it until it needs charging again. whatever happened in that pouch was pretty dramatic I'm glad it didn't burst and burn the house down! 💣😁

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi: Blank screen after replacement

I've just replaced the screen on an IPad Air 2, I am testing it before final assembly and the screen is completely blank. I have plugged the iPad into iTunes and it is recognised correctly although I can't do anything with it because the device is locked and, of course, I can't use the screen.

I have tried reattaching the old screen (minus the home button), this was broken but produced a distorted image, however now it isn't producing anything visible at all.

I believe that the three connectors are in place correctly, they all gave the usual 'snap' as they went in.

I'm looking for any suggestions of what might cause this to happen. I have transferred the home button from the broken screen and obviously that is s delicate operation, could a blank screen point to a problem with the home button or should the screen fire up without one?

Any help appreciated

I own an iPad Air 2. Recently, the charging port has been “loose”: the charger keeps falling out of position and wiggling is required to get it to work right at times. There are times I walk away while it is “charging” and come back to find it not charging.

I visited an Apple Store today. Was told that my charger port “expanded” because of using non Apple chargers. Told me they don’t offer repairs but 3rd parties may be able to. I asked two phone repair kiosks. Both said they could repair, but prices given were $99 and $80.

Is there a cheaper option? Just want to know I’m not good at DIY and probably won’t have the tools necessary.

iPad Air 2 LTE: Can I put an iPad 5 battery into an iPad Air 2?

Hi folks..

I got three iPads lying around with various defects and I'm trying to make a single properly functioning one out of them.

The iPad Air 2 LTE (A1567) has a near-dead battery

The iPad 5th's (A1822) screen is cracked and loose every which way

The iPad 7th (A2197), according to the Apple Store has a dead logic board (won't boot / goes into reboot cycle)

Far as I can tell my options are to either repair/replace 7's board or replace the Air 2's battery.

So I was wondering if the apparently different model battery from the iPad 5 would be okay to fit into the Air 2?

(Sorry if it's an obvious 'no way'. Not an expert by any stretch.)

But then I put it on the heater again and used glue tool (spinning stick thing) and then tried to clean with cloth and 99% alcohol. When almost cleaned I checked it again and this time it seemed like the backlight has broken. It’s sort of more dim on certain areas. Not so noticeable when colors are present, but on a white screen it’s terrible. Trying to post pic but doesn’t work. What in the process do I fail?

My iPad Air 2 keeps kernel panicking due to the thermalmonitord service not getting a response. I have seen a few other people with this issue, but not any with the same missing sensor (TG0B) and also mine doesn’t reboot every 180 seconds indicating that it isn’t always faulty. I did get the display replaced previously, and when I received the device back it was completely dead so I sent it back and they fixed it. 3utools reports a changed battery, could this be the issue?
iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi: Ipad air 2 weird charging issue

My mothers ipad air 2 stopped charging. Being 10 years old I bought the battery kit from ifixit and replaced it. Then it would charge but not if the battery got below 24%. It has to be forced into restore mode by holding home and power buttons. I found out she had been using off brand charge cable so that suggested bad tristar. So I bought a few of those and replaced it. The problems persist. The battery drops like a rock (10% every 15 minutes or so). Will not charge below 24% battery without restore mode. Only seems to charge after that if the tablet is off.

Has anyone had these issues? Could it be a faulty battery or PMIC? Im starting to worry its gonna burn her house down.
