iPad 4 GSM: Ran out of battery, never turned back on.

Hi everyone.

Got a 7 months old iPad 4, and its dead as a dodo, battery ran out while using it, connected it to the charger the next day, and it never came back on, no apple logo, no charging symbol, does not respond to any reset procedure, two chargers (12 and 10 watt) was tried, and 3 cables, also tried connecting it to different computers, both mac and pc, no reaction.

And yes, its still under apples 1 year warranty, but since it was sold in Latin America, and i'm in Europe they don't want anything to do with it.

Its been left on the charger for 3 days, and no change.

Did the battery simply just pack up and died totally, or should i expect a logic board failure since the screen just stays black.

iPad was never dropped, never exposed to water, and is in pristine condition, except being a paper weight. :D

Any suggestions ?

iPad 4 GSM: iPad has very thin "cracks" along the edge of the LCD...but not really

This iPad has a dead zone on the left edge of the digitizer, about 5 mm from the edge. I proceeded to do a standard digitizer repair but when I opened it up, I noticed these very small and thin (hairline) "cracks" along the edge of the LCD. You don't really notice them with digitizer in place because it obscures the black edge trim so there is only 1-2 mm of these cracks available for view and the screen is usually cruddy with fingerprint smudges.

I looked under the microscope and very gently probed the cracks. They don't appear to interfere with the actual display and they seem to be more of a gap in the protective film of the LCD than anything else (on the underside of the film). Otherwise, the digitizer and the LCD are not damaged. The LCD displays perfectly, even under the "cracks". This device was repaired before (cracked digi) but was working perfectly for the last year.

My concern is that these will spread to the point of nuisance or worse. If that happens sooner than later, I want the customer to understand the risks before spending more money on this device.

Coincidentally, this is the same edge that has the digitizer dead zone. Has anyone seen this before and any ideas on what could have caused it?

iPad 4 GSM: Ipad 4 not charging and not starting

Dear tech-people,

my Ipad 4's battery has reached 0% two days ago. As usual I attached it to the original charger (with non-original cable) but it would neither charge anything (just stay as in the attached picture) or boot. After inserting the cable and after pressing the power button the attached picture appears on the screen for two seconds but nothing else. It stayed on the charger for around 24h now without any changes.

I have already researched a little and have tried a second cable, charging dock and cleaned the lighting adapter (nothing noticable came out). I also tried the different combinations of pressing the power and home button, but the Ipad would just stay in the state as in the picture.

I have run over this tutorial from 2012: Ipad Dock connector no longer working

Does anyone know if this procedure would be applicable to the Ipad 4 too? Any other ideas?

Thank you a lot for your help!

Best regards

iPad 4 GSM: I was replacing the battery and it started smelling weird

So I was going to replace the back on my iPad and as I was removing the huge amounts of adhesive that the battery was stuck to, the battery started to make a weird smell. So I stopped immediately and put the thing down for risk of explosion or fire. I noticed that I had accidentally punctured the little bridge between the 1st and 2nd battery. What I want to know is A) Can I keep the batteries in my house disconnected and out of direct sunlight in a ziploc safely and not have a risk of explosion or fire, B) How should I dispose of the battery, because I don't want to just throw it in the trash if it could cause a fire or something, and C) are the fumes that I inhaled toxic in any way. I don't feel funny or anything I just want to know. I currently have the iPad in a ziploc bag that is sealed shut. The battery was not warm at all either and no liquid is visible. I have abandoned all repair attempt and am going to just get a new iPad because I don't want to risk breaking a new battery again. The battery was about 88% charged by the way. Thanks.

iPad 4 GSM: Ipad 4 Irregular Voltages and 0 amp draw

Hi, any suggestion is highly appreciated because I'm in a state of depression rn thankyou :D.

Disclaimer, I usually do a laptop repairs so mobile repair is not my specialty, sorry if my approach you found somewhat dumb.

the ipad comes with no display problem with 0 amp current draw, upon checking i found the voltages around the board (when the power button is pressed) is pulsing like 3v and goes back to 0v and so on.

this symptom is look like the ipad itself is trying to boot but failed, then i began to search if there is a short circuit across the board, alas there is no short at all and all voltages look like present and healthy except for the pulsing issue.

*the pulsing issue persists when the ipad is only powered by the battery. (with and without the power cable attached)

because i have no idea where to start diagnose further, i read in many forums that U2 tristar is likely to be the culprit, with that idea I tried to replace the tristar with a new one and the problem is of course still persist.

what i have already checked are

the battery is known good

charging port no problem (tried another one)

*  no short circuit

power button is good i think (i've tried jumper it from the on off from the power button connector and the problem still the same)

i think the real culprit will be U8100 which is the PMU because the PMU is responsible for power delivery to those component on the logicboard (right?) but im not sure because i don't have enough evidence yet to replace that PMU

or maybe the communications board (where the baseband chip located i suppose) can cause the issue?

iPad 4 GSM: iPad 4 GSM won't finish booting after front glass replacement

I just completed the very long replacement guide "iPad 4 GSM Front Panel Replacement". The process went relatively well and before I closed up the unit I powered it on and was able to confirm the LCD and digitizer were working and I also logged in successfully and was able to pick up WiFi networks (just to check that the WiFi antenna was okay).

Then I proceeded to button up the unit, trying to guide the funny home button ribbon cable as best I could to close it. Now after it was closed and sealed the Apple logo showed for booting but then just stuck there. I tried a hard reboot (with the power and home buttons) and it turned off but then immediately back on again (which isn't supposed to happen). I thought I damaged the home button ribbon cable so I opened it back up and put in the previous home button cable with the same result. Now I have an iPad which won't boot. I connected it to my iMac and it was recognized and asked to pair but of course with no interface on the iPad I can't get much further than that.

I also left it overnight and the battery died. Plugging it in I got the same symptom - white Apple logo and nothing more. Hopefully there is an easy solution from you repair gurus out there?

My ipad charges fully but it does not keep the charge even when not in use, it drains fast. We have taken it to change the battery twice with different repair shops both focus on apple products. In both times the ipad charged and kept the charge according to the the repair persons, but when we brought it home the charge did not hold with the new batteries each time. Both times took it back got refunded. The 1st repair shop didn't know what was wrong. The 2nd repair shop said that to logic board might not be letting the battery keep the charge. Has this happen to anyone? If it is the logic board can I replace it? Will it have any effect on the ipad? What does the logic board do to the battery? How can I be sure that it is the logic board?
iPad 4 GSM: Display wont turn on, iTunes says its powered

Hi,

Got an iPad here that the customer said its just not powering on. I plugged it into the PC and opened 3uTools and it wasn't turned on. I charged it for more than 24 hours waiting for life but there was none. I changed the charging port and still made no difference. So I tried a new LCD whilst it showed the Apple logo (White) it went back off after it flashed about 3 times. I have since changed the battery too and It seemed to have more power. I was able to reflash the iOS thinking it could just be a bad software glitch and it seemed to have worked. I can setup the iPad as new and seemed ok.

But after the setup when the screen timeout kicks in I cannot get it to turn the display back on. iTunes and 3uTools says its turned on but there is no display. I've tried 2 new screens now and its still the same.

Any Ideas?

iPad 4 GSM: New ifixit touchscreen fails on ipad 4 gsm

ipad 4 gsm :

replaced touchscreen with ifixit touchscreen and home button works but the touchscreen doesn't function at all. The digitizer seems to work fine. I think the touch screen is bad or I'm not getting the ribbon cable back in correctly for touchscreen. Can I test the touchscreen without installing it? Is the touchscreen independent of the digitizer ? The one issue I have is the touchscreen ribbon cable will not sit passively like the oem and thus the touchscreen does not passively seat even though the cable is connected.
