iMac G3 Model M4984: Powers up (can hear hi-voltage), No Sound, No Picture

Can not see CRT filaments. Resistance of filaments is low. Computer MB has all the correct voltages, processor gets hot. Power supplies seem good with the exception of the +130v is only 87volts. I don't know if that's normal if the computer is not turning the display on? Or might the Power Supply board have a problem, or the CRT Board? Do the speakers hook up from the CRT Board via that video cable or how do the speakers get their sound? This thing does not bleep, bloop or do a thing. LED stays orange,

iMac G3 Model M4984: Is 10.3 or 10.4 better for this

I am pretty sure i picked the wrong iMac nor do i think iFixit has it listed so i will list the specs

40GB HDD(80GB when it is summer)

128MB PC100 memory (512MB or 1GB summer time)

600MHZ g3

Has 10.2.8 now but not for long!

**new harddrive is in!**(more playroom for me!

**

next project: upgrade the memory to 512MB or 1GB

I thought i would share this for a good laugh

On my way back from work(luckily i had 2 boxes on me),i seen this by a dumpster so i took it home and i tested it in may garage for 2 days because of my parents paranoia over my dumpster iMac

Had 10.2.4 when i got it so i updated it to 10.2.8 with NO intent to update but with limited software choices,it had to go

have to use 10.3 right now:(

At least till i can borrow a a CD-Rw that actually reads DVD-r discs

I cheated to et 10.4 on the G3

It has the stock memory and runs well!

iMac G3 Model M4984: How do I install the MacOs?

Change the original 4GB HDD of this model to an 80GB one. But I can't install the system to use it again. I light it and the “?” Icon is flashing. Download and burn discs with MacOs 9, 8 and I can't make it boot from the CD. As I read it was to keep the letter "c" after the ignition but does nothing. I would greatly appreciate your help.

I saw a video that the guy replace the HDD for a SSD with PATA/SATA adapter. Since I’m unable to install mac os 9.2 from CD, is there a way to install the mac os 9.2 into the SSD in another machine + connect in iMac and that’s it?

If yes, how?

iMac G3 Model M4984: iMac g3 boot from dvd

I have an imac g3 from 1998 I am trying to wipe the hard drive as I got the computer from a recycling place and am trying to reinstall mac os 9.2.2 on it. I cannot boot from the dvd. I only have a Microsoft keyboard and mouse. I have tried the “alt” key and on a forum someone said to use the “ alt” and “r” key. Nothing has worked so far. When I try those keys it boots up from the hard drive. Instead of going to boot menu.

iMac G3 Model M4984: Won't Reboot After Startup

I recently purchased an iMac G3 (Blueberry) just because!

It booted up the first time! But, it won’t restart or, if shutdown, won’t boot again.

If it sits for a couple of days, it will boot up properly, but still not restart or shutdown and boot again. The power button on the console glows amber (not green) and I can hear the disk spinning but no joy.

I zapped the PRAM but no help. I removed the logic module and reset the Cuda button and still no change. I put in a new PRAM battery - still not working properly.

I think the next step is to reset the Logic Board.

Anyone know why it would reboot if sitting for a couple of days?

Any other advice?

Thanks,

iMac G3 Model M4984: file sharing only works one way

Hi I’m trying to transfer files from my macintosh performa (OS 7.6) to an iMac g3 powerpc (OS 9.2). The computers are connected directly via a crossover cable and I have file sharing on and program linking on for both. I have set both computer’s IP addresses (the shared one to 10.0.0.2 and the one receiving files to 10.0.0.1) and the net mask (255.255.255.252). I have my users access privileges set to “everyone” and on my iMac I have checked the box marked “enable file sharing clients to connect over TCP/IP”. However, I do not see the same checkbox on my performa so I figured having TCP/IP active on my performa was enough to allow access.

The issue is that I can only share files to my performa and not to my iMac. When I go to the chooser control panel on my performa I can input the iMac IP address and everything works fine. However, when I do the same on my iMac and input my performa’s IP address it hits me with the “no response from the server” error. What am I doing wrong?

iMac G3 Model M4984: iMac sortof powering up

My iMac G3 was working but now isn’t. It’s exhibiting bizarre behavior so I’ll be specific. When I plug it in I can hear a faint high pitch whine from the inside. Pressing the power button results in it glowing amber, the hdd spinning up, then the bootup chime. The display does not come on. Shortly after the chime there will be a sort of thunk then the power button will turn green within a blink of an eye the whole thing shuts off. It won’t even think about showing signs of life afterwards. The only way to repeat this is to leave it unplugged for an amount of time. When I plug it without doing anything else the lights will slightly flicker so I think something is happening.

iMac G3 Model M4984: Disassembly guide for iMac G3 M4984

I have an M4984 iMac G3(tray loading) that I recently got that I want to disassemble to check whether it has all its parts and has no internal damage. The guide on here only goes as far as removing the logic board assembly, and I haven't been able to find any other guides online for this model. I don't want to try to figure out how to take it apart by myself as I'm a bit scared of working with the CRT, and I don't know much about older desktops. Does anyone know of a teardown/disassembly guide for this iMac? Thanks.

Hey Guys,

Ive upgraded my iMac G3 (333 MHz, Tray Loading) to 128 MB RAM and wanted to boot the Install CD, but the iMac doesn’t boot from the CD although my PowerBook G3 (400 MHz, Wallstreet) does. I’ve installed updated the MacOS 8.5 to 9.22 before and also updated the firmware before. When I boot into MacOS 9 he doesn’t recognize the CD but my PB, which also has a OS 9 installed, does. I guess it has something to do with the drive as I just could boot the OS 8.6 Install disk when I was upgrading to OS 9, I upgraded 8 to 9 by file sharing the install off my PowerBook.
