Hi. I just removed the hard drive from my old iBook G3 (clamshell), but I don't have another Mac available to recover my data to. I already have an Universal Drive Adapter, but my current computer is a Win7 laptop. I tried connecting it, and i hear the noise of the hard drive but nothing else happens.

I have a clamshell iBook and I'm trying to install Jaguar on an OS 9 system, it will start the disk but when it restarts in has a gray screen with the apple logo then all the sudden it gets lines through the middle of the screen and stops running the disk, any ideas on how to fix this problem, i bought this one and a tangerine one for Christmas presents for the kids but they will get on the internet but won't bring up a full page or install updates because the system is to old, so i bought the jaguar upgrade because its supposed to be able to be the last upgrade you can put on these old buggers. any help would be appreciated, happy holidays jen

iBook G3 Clamshell: How do I upgrade from OS 9.0 to 10.3?

I have an iBook G3, which I tried to update years ago, ran into problems, and ended up wiping it clean and reinstalling OS 9.0 using the CD it came with. I have both CDs 1 and 2 of OS X 10.3 Install in file format only (.dmg) which it cannot read, and I doubt it would even if I burnt them onto CDs. It does not have an AirPort card (which may or may not be relevant, because it doesn't have a working browser it seems). I'm assuming I can't go straight from 9.0 to 10.3... I read that it's best to update to 9.2 first, and possibly update the firmware as well.

What approach should I take? Try to find a browser that will work (from another computer) and use a USB stick and then download updates directly to the clamshell? or could this all be done by getting everything I need on the other computer and bring things over one at a time by USB stick?

What software or whatever would I need to get me to the 9.2, and when I get there, what's would be the best way to get me to the 10.3? I have the OS X 10.3 install dvds as well, but keep in mind this only has a CD drive, not dvd (although I have a powerbook G4 and ibook G4, both not working and both with cd/dvd drives if there is anyway they might be compatible).

iBook G3 Clamshell: Best way to remove writing scratched in plastic

Hi! I've purchased piles of clamshells from recyclers which have "ABC School District" or similar text etched/scratched/etc. into the plastic on the top of the case. I need to remove this before re-selling the machines because recyclers are required to remove the previous identities of the machines they take in. Does anyone know a good way to do this kind of thing without making a total mess? The text itself is scratched into the plastic and pretty low-profile as-is, however I know it will look horrible if I take my Dremel to it. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has creative ideas.

Thanks!

iBook G3 Clamshell: Is possible to upgrade my clamshell Blueberry's HD to this 40Gb model?

Since I'm leaving at Germany and iFixit is currently not selling hard drives for iBook clamshell, I found two another options:

But are any of these HDs compatible with my clamshell?

Actually I have no clue about it. Mactracker says that my clamshell uses ATA-2 HDs, and I saw many Ultra ATA HDs. Are they compatible too?

Also I don't understand how ATA-2 is related (or not) to ATA100.

I'm a complete dummy about this, and will appreciate any help.
