iBook G4: My iBook screen is white.

Here's what happened. I was booting my iBook back up one time, and lines.

Now it's just a blank screen. I have tried everything, from removing the ram, to resetting the pram. Nothing worked. My iBook still gets in the os, so the screen may be it? Thank you for your help.

iBook G3 Clamshell: Powers on, no chime, HDD spins but not consistently

Hello!

I got this iBook G3 Clamshell from the local hackerspace in my city. It had the "vinegar syndrome" on the LCD and I took it apart to replace it.

However, I realized that, even with a bad LCD, I should still get a Mac chime when booting. This one doesn't do it.

A few facts:

Charging light turns on and gets orange when there's a battery plugged in.
Battery seems to be dead
I took the laptop apart so that I only have the logic board, DC-in, headphones plugged in so I can hear the chime (I was also testing with composite out plugged to a TV) and an HDD without its cover, so I can see whether it is spinning.

With the battery plugged in:

Sometimes when I try to turn it on, I hear noise on the headphones but the HDD doesn't spin. I have to force it to shut down. Charging light turns orange after shut down, when HDD stops.
Sometimes when I try to turn it on, the HDD spins just a little and I hear a noise on the headphones indicating that the laptop powered off
Sometimes the HDD spins and keeps spinning. The mechanical head moves to the middle of the HDD as if it was trying to read something.

Without the battery plugged in, it's basically the same behavior, but the charging light never turns orange.

I also tried resetting the PRAM (cmd option P R), PMU (holding power, holding reset, holding control shift option).

Heck, I'm almost doing some kind of ritual like this to make it work lol.

I checked the super capacitor as mentioned in this video and it doesn't look leaky. There's nothing leaky or weird on the logic board btw.

Please help me.

I bought a iBook G3 Clamshell from craigslist for $30 from a guy who said he brought it out and turned it on for a while and after some time (forget how long) he said the screen turned just white and it never displayed normal again. The iBook does just display a white screen, so now I need to know how to repair it. I’ve looked all over but it seems no one else has this issue. I opened it up and it appears the screen cable is plugged in. I haven’t turned it on in a while because I’ve kinda given up hope that i’ll be able to fix it. But I’ve been thinking about it recently and kinda wanna fix it (even with my very very limited to no soldering skills). Anyone know what’s wrong

TL;DR: My iBook G3 only displays white screen, previous owner says he turned it on for a while then screen turned white. Need help repairing it.

iBook G4 14" 1.42 GHz: Why do small plastic balls fall off the bottom of my laptop?

I have these little white balls that are coming off from micro cracks in the outer finish of my laptop - but why is it happening? Does anyone else have this problem? I've tried to seal the bottom with a safe sealant, but that wears off. And just some packing tape that I can remove has slowed the shedding down - but it always finds a way to continue. No other iBook we've had has done this.

Any suggestions?

I have a iBook G3 Clamshell without FireWire and it does not turn on. When I plug in the charger, the charging port does not light up at all, and if I press the power button the screen does not light up and the hard drive does not spin.

I can’t see if the computer powers on with the battery, because it has been dead for a very long time, and the computer won’t charge it.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with the computer?

iBook G3 Clamshell: Blank screen (not black or dead) after trying to reformat

So I recently got myself a iBook indigo 366mhz firewire and apart from the battery being dead it was working flawless.

But the thing is it came preloaded with software (OS9) and I wanted a clean install so I went to MacOS9Lives and downloaded their 9.2.2 universal iso

It booted fine I managed to reformat the HDD and was installing OS9 and everything seemed alright… But then the screen started to flicker and the laptop died…

I restarted it but only got a blank screen… It's not black or white but a pale shade of blue and it won't show the boot selection screen neither show a blinking folder just blank…

CD still sounds like it's booting holding the C key but screen won't change - always that pale shade of blue…

Anyone has any hints on what could be wrong here…?

Mind you it was working just fine prior to trying to reinstall the system though.

I'll post a picture so what I described wont be as vague… Don't know how it can be backlight if the screen is lit up like I said but here's the picture:

Also I'm assuming a HDD failure wouldn't prevent it from showing the selection screen at boot and it would probably show the question mark folder and if it had faulty RAM it wouldn't even turn on right…?

I'm really hoping it's just something loose inside - fingers crossed!

It was a major pain to open it up even with a guide (sooo many screws and different bits!) but at least it’s clean and thermal pads replaced. And since I was ‘there’ I removed the logo cover so now the Apple in the back sort of glows :)

Sad thing is the display remains the same… at this stage I’m assuming it’s a faulty LCD so I’ll source one from a iBook snow 12” and go for the ‘high-res’ mod as well why not…

iBook G3 12": Why do I have no sound and my DVDs dont work

I have a iBook G3 Snow 600 MHz 256 MB, and the sound doesn't work. I got it to magically start working once when I booted up Oregon Trail, but when I turned it off and back on it stopped working again. When you plug in headphones you hear staticy noises and faintly hear whatever you're listening to. When you put in a DVD the DVD player just shows a green screen and says "not permitted". I assume that the DVD thing and the audio thing are related since they started working at the same time^. I'm thinking this has something to do with the logic board or the CPU but if anybody knows why id love to know, even if its expensive and complicated to fix i'm still willing to consider doing it

iBook G4 14" 1.42 GHz: Will switch on but is stuck on a screen with small icon!

I have an iBook G4 which hasn’t been used/switched on for years, plugged it in and switched it on. It switches on but all I get is a white screen with a tiny little file icon with a question mark in it which then flips to the 2 blue face icon repeatedly. Am I doomed or can it be fixed? Not bothered if I can’t use the iBook any more I just want what’s saved on my hard drive if possible. Thanks

Just replaced the fan and Optical Drive. When I pulled out the blue/white wire it looked like the connector was loose. I kind of pushed it back in, but of course the power button does not work. Can I fix it? Or is there another way to turn the computer on?

I need some help in setting up new screen for iBook G3 clamshell.

I replaced the LCD screen according to this nice instruction in https://ibookmod.livejournal.com/559.htm.... I used model number LTN121X1-L02 LCD screen from Aliexpress.

However, I got the screen attached and I guess this is normal. I should change the setting to see the proper display.

Then, I found this site but just pictures were shown with no explanation (attached).

iBook G4 12" 800 MHz-1.2 GHz: Backlight LCD display not working, how to fix it?

The backlight on my iBook g4 is not working.

Symptoms:

external screen works
iBook runs normal
Apple Hardware Test cannot find any problems
Screen brightness is at full
LCD screen works except the backlight. If I shine at the screen with a flashlight I can see all that all the pixels are working and showing the same image as the external screen.

I have tried the following:

changed inverter board
changed inverter cable, this cable was most likely the original problem. The insulation on a few wires was completely gone.
changed the LCD panel for one with a know working backlight.

Does anybody have some tips on how to repair my beloved iBook? Does anybody know where to look on the logic board?
