eMac: My eMac has a slight burning smell when I power it on

Hi guys I'm working on fixing my apple eMac but I've encountered a few issues when powering it up. When I turn it on I hear the usual thump sound then I can smell a slight burning smell near the CRT deflection yoke/heater area. The screen also briefly flashes a colour during this event. I'm not sure what to check. It could be the flyback transformer failing, it could be a short winding on the deflection yoke.

No visible sparks or major damage seems to be present but the smell is quite worrying. The analog board could also be at fault here. I've carefully reassembled the eMac also and it does power on. Can anyone help me or share experiences with similar problems?

Thanks in advance for any help
