eMac: My eMac has a slight burning smell when I power it on

Hi guys I'm working on fixing my apple eMac but I've encountered a few issues when powering it up. When I turn it on I hear the usual thump sound then I can smell a slight burning smell near the CRT deflection yoke/heater area. The screen also briefly flashes a colour during this event. I'm not sure what to check. It could be the flyback transformer failing, it could be a short winding on the deflection yoke.

No visible sparks or major damage seems to be present but the smell is quite worrying. The analog board could also be at fault here. I've carefully reassembled the eMac also and it does power on. Can anyone help me or share experiences with similar problems?

Thanks in advance for any help

eMac: Is my eMac missing a jumper?

I just bought an eMac from a local thrift shop. On the box it said it used European power and came with an Apple European two pronged chord but on the machine itself it says 120V near the serial number and on the bottom access door. When I plug it in to my American outlet and turn it on, nothing happens so I am guessing it is true that it was somehow set to use 220V.

I have been referring to a service manual online, but my computer is a different variation (it is the 1.25 GHz USB 2.0 model). Mine does look the same as the one in the ifixit guide though. I am pretty sure I need a jumper somewhere, but there is only one photo on the ifixit guide of the spot I need to look at, but the spot I need is obscured. Can anyone take a photo of the board (not the logic board, but the huge circuit board under the CRT) where the power cable connects? I’m referring to the spot in the guide where the blue and brown wires from the power socket connect to the board with a white plug. If you’re looking at the eMac from the top front, its to the left of the CRT neck.

Here is what mine looks like:

Thanks!

eMac: How difficult is it to replace the front bezel and re-seat a speaker?

I have an eMac that seems to work great, but has sustained damage to the front bezel… it is loose on the right hand side and has a hairline crack between the CD drawer and right speaker grille. And that right speaker is somehow popped out of place and laying facedown inside the case. If I find a new bezel, would this be an easy fix? Would I have to discharge the CRT to do it? Thanks!

eMac: Computer Starts but Screen does not turn on?

So, I have a pretty standard eMac that I’ve kept in good condition, no extra work done to it or anything, and I went to turn it on, pressed the power button, heard the regular noise that an eMac makes upon start up, and the screen doesn’t turn on. Comparing to one of my other eMacs that works, it doesn’t seem to be making any noises that sound different. Plugging in a second monitor reveals that the computer is indeed on and working, it’s just that the screen attached to the unit remains black.

What exactly could be causing this issue, and is there anything I could do to fix the screen on my own?

eMac: Front panel became very yellow. Is it possible to remove it?

I bought this eMac about 10 years ago and just so happened that I didn't have a place for it and some of my friends were asking for a spare computer for word processing and other light tasks. The last friend that had it did something (?) and the front panel became really yellow. I am aware a lot of Apple products of the time had this yellowing problem because of UV exposure, but it seems strange as the back is still completely white so is the CD tray. Could this be a job for Retr0bright? Do you have to disassemble the entire machine in order to unscrew just the front panel?
