asus rog strix g531gt: Is this bad grounding issue?

TL;DR: Just touching the metal part of the hdmi cable to any metal part of the laptop's hdmi, ethernet or usb makes the power adaptor stop working. When I turn the main power off and on again it starts working again.

I got a 1440p 160hz external monitor a few months ago and had to get an hdmi 2.1 cable as older ones I had didn't work properly. It worked fine with the laptop for the past 6 months. Now whenever I connect the hdmi, it stops the power adaptor from working, dropping the laptop to battery mode which significantly affects the performance. I did some troubleshooting and these are what I found out:

The adaptor completely stops working. Just unplugging from the port and reconnecting doesn't work. Have to turn the main power off and on again to make it work again. If the hdmi is connected, it goes out again.

I have a 150W adaptor (20V x 7.5A). Didn't get another 150W in time so had to get a 180W from a friend to test. It worked fine with that. I'll get a 150W to test in a few days if needed.

I connected the laptop to 2 TVs with HDMI cables that were being used with the TVs and it worked fine. Even 4K 30hz and 60hz at a slightly lower resolution worked (these are older cables - "high speed with ethernet" ones compared to the "ultra high speed with ethernet" one I normally use). But when I tried connecting the TV with the HDMI 2.1 I had, the same issue occurs. Edit: just tried with the 1080p TV again with its HDMI cable and the adaptor stopped, so it's not just the other cable or monitor.

This issue occurs even if the monitor is off. But it doesn't happen if one end is unplugged.

The display does get output even after all this. Even after it enters battery mode.

When using the power, without any hdmi connected, the trackpad starts lagging when the laptop hits a higher load. This does not occur in battery mode.

This is the main point. I opened up the laptop to try clean the ports and when that didn't work, I noticed that just touching the cable to any part of the metal housing of the hdmi port stops the power adaptor. Then I tried touching it to the RJ45 and the USB ports and the same issue occurs. Again this is only if the other end of the cable is connected to the monitor, even if it is off, probably completing a circuit. But I believe hdmi doesn't conduct power through the shell? Correct me if I'm wrong.

What could be the issue here? At first I thought it was either the hdmi cable or the power adaptor but after the 7th observation, I think there's some issue with the laptop. I'm planning on taking it to a repair centre but I'd like to have an idea on what the issue might be and the possibility of if and how it can be fixed.

asus rog strix g531gt: Asus ROG Strix G531GT freezes/crashes after plugging in.

My ROG Strix G531GT works fine when on battery, boots up fine and everything, but the moment I plug it in, it will lag out occasionally and eventually just freeze up entirely, leaving me with no choice but to hold the power button for a force shutdown. After that, it won't turn back on either by pressing the power button. I've noticed that sometimes, if the device is plugged in before powering on, it would not start, or would freeze within a span of 5-10 mins. All the drivers were updated.

Could this be a motherboard issue? My exhaust fans did occasionally make noise, so I'm worried that the fans might be the culprit, I had them cleaned for dust and reapplied thermal paste 2 months back, and temps, while not exactly low, weren't way too high either. Before I spend money on replacing the fans entirely, I just wanted to know if there is something else i need to troubleshoot or look into?

asus rog strix g531gt: HDMI port is not working

My laptop's HDMI port seems loose. Whenever I adjust the monitor, the connection flickers or cuts out. Initially, I could find a position that held the connection stable, but recently it's become much worse.

I opened the laptop to inspect the port for damage, but couldn't identify the specific issue. Unfortunately, ASUS service centers in India seem unable to replace just the HDMI port, and instead want to replace the entire motherboard.

Here's what I'm wondering:

HDMI Port Replacement: Is it possible to solder a new HDMI port onto the motherboard even if ASUS doesn't offer this service? Are there resources available that could guide me through this process? (Note: Soldering requires advanced electronics skills and equipment. It's a risky option for someone without experience.)

Display Converter: Can I use a converter like an LCD to HDMI adapter to bypass the faulty port? This would involve connecting the converter to the laptop's internal display cable and then plugging the monitor into the converter's HDMI output. Are there any reliable converters that wouldn't compromise the resolution or refresh rate for gaming?

#

While I saw USB-to-HDMI adapters, reviews suggest they have limitations on resolution and refresh rate, making them unsuitable for gaming.

Since your laptop is older and you're considering a new PC anyway, replacing the motherboard might not be the most economical solution. Finding a reliable converter could be a more cost-effective option for extending the life of your laptop until you build a new PC.

asus rog strix g531gt: I replaced the keycap but the key wont go down

I bought a key replacement for the enter key because mine broke, and I put the new keycap but the key is very hard and press and also doesnt go all the way down so the press is not detected. I asked for support but they weren't of help. Does anyone have any clue of what could be happening? Did I do something wrong or the key is the problem. It should be compatible as before buying I send some pictures to the of the original one to be sure I bought the right one. Or does anyone has a recomendation on a website where I could get the right key.

I attach a video without the keycap. Its like the rubbet thing is too big so the white part cannot go all the way down

asus rog strix g531gt: Why does my FPS drops from 150 to 50?

Whenever I play games and or do editing, my FPS drops from 150 -160 to 30 - 60 and doesn't comeback for almost 3mins. Its like being unplugged from the charger even though there's no notification and is still charging. I also noticed that the it tends to get hotter than usual. I also timed how fast the battery goes, and it only lasts 30mins..

Is it an airflow issue or is it the battery?
