Xbox Series X: No Sound After Console Wipe / New Installation

Hi Guys,

I have a console in for repair that someone previously attempted to replace the HDMI port on. I won't lie, it was well and truly butchered and almost all the pads were ripped off with the port along with the tracks. Normally I'd turn this one away but I was genuinely curious to see if I could get it going again.

I replaced the port, manually wired everything in and it's working!

However, I removed the board after the initial test to apply solder mask and close it up again. It worked just fine up until I reset the console, at which I lost all sound and the resolution defaulted to 640 x 480. I do get the option to change the display to 720 / 1080 but doing this does not restore the sound. Baffled, I looked everywhere online for a solution but turned up nothing. I was able to restore the sound by selecting 'Video Fidelity & Overscan' and setting the display back to HDMI from DVI, but after resetting the console again, it simply defaults back to DVI. This has me thinking there's a hardware issue but I'm not entirely sure...

I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on the issue but I'll keep trying and update the post as I know more. Hope you can help!

Kind regards,

Chris

Xbox Series X: Broken Xbox Series X power ribbon clip!

Hello does anyone happen to know where i can get a replacement clip for the power ribbon for my series x or even a solid duct tape fix for now? Long story short, we live in the middle of nowhere in a 150 year old house regular cleaning is essential, so I wasn't listening to someone when I should have, so to get my attention she hooks the ribbon with her pinkie and POP!. But as far as I can tell there is no damage to the bridge board. Just a couple of the pins on the ribbon connector are scrunched back a little and the grey piece you press to release the cable has a half a centimeter gap that is broken out. I'm about 98.2% sure that the ribbon cable not seating in is the issue. So if anyone has a fix or link to where I could find this little part it would be greatly appreciated.

Xbox Series X: Xbox series X Randomly shutting down

Hello everyone,

My Xbox series X is randomly shutting down when playing games… I haven’t observed it having any issues downloading or streaming, only when playing both disk and digital games.

I followed all the basic recommendations for ventilation. That did nothing so I opened it… the thermal paste was terrible but after replacing it, and cleaning the console, there was no difference.

I’m about to start swapping parts, specifically the power supply to see if that resolved it. I’m also considering that it could be a fault on the SSD because occasionally, on restart, none of the games or anything will load. I also considered it may be something wrong with the main power rails to the CPU but that’s just a guess because I recall watching one get fixed once and being told a console could function without a phase of power but may fail under load.

Any thoughts? I would appreciate input as I can not find any post, article, or YouTube video suggesting a real cause and solution.
