Tea Kettle: Dualit Architects Kettle - switch?

Hello,

Following a thorough (perhaps too thorough) descaling of this Dualit Architect's kettle, I appear to have problems with the power staying on. I've ruled out the power base unit as I know someone with the same kettle and we've tested it.

Here's what happens;

1. Switch clicked down - power comes on and blue light shows, seconds later it powers off.

2. Holding the switch down or rotating the kettle slightly on the base makes the power come back.

I've tried to open it up to have a look but I've got stuck.

The lower curved panels come off easily as they are meant to be replaceable. Two screws come out from behind these panels and three screws come out of the base. The entire dark grey plastic base is now loose but not free.

The lower screw on the handle comes out and the chrome effect handle cover is also loose but not free. The upper part of the handle - where the lid opening button is, appears fixed and I can't see how to loosen it as there are no visible screws. I'd prefer not to force and break it.

In order to access the switch and check the base internals I need to remove the dark grey plastic kettle base/housing, however it is connected at the lower part of the handle.

I suspect there's fixings below the chrome handle cover - but to find out I need to remove it and as mentioned the top of this handle cover is seemingly secured over the lid button.

Any tips most welcome, thanks!

Tea Kettle: Why does my OXO On Adjustable Temperature Pour-over kettle shut off?

I have an OXO On Adjustable Temperature Pour-over kettle that shuts off partially through the water heating process. This has been an intermittent problem, but now happens consistently.

After setting the temperature using the dial and pressing the button to start heating, the water begins heating. At some point, the temperature display and the "---" display flash on and off, but the heating continues. Finally, the device shuts off.

Here is a video of this behavior: https://youtu.be/HznYrlmpaK4

For reference, this is what the kettle looks like:

Tea Kettle: Xiaomi Mi Smart Kettle Pro - causing weird house lights flickering

Following the death of my old british highlander kettle, lasted well over 30 years, I decided to buy a temperature controlled kettle, pretty useful for making teas that require different steeping temperatures.

It's a nice and not too expensive item, well designed as water is in touch with stainless steel only and it's powered by 1.8Kw that makes it fast enough for heating, but not too excessive.

However, I noticed an odd behavior that makes me wonder about its engineering. Whenever it's about to reach programmed temperature, whether boiling at 100Cº or a much lower 70Cº, it makes lights in the house flicker for the last some 10/15 seconds. No problems until it reaches about scheduled temperature, thus it wouldn't seem related to power itself.

House is properly electrically fit with fairly new cabling, grounding is redundant, the old kettle that was more powerful and other electrical power greedy appliances such as ovens never causes/d such an issue.

I can stand 15" lights flickering with no problem, but I wonder what the issue may be and if it might cause distress or damage to other electrical appliances one way or the other.

Tea Kettle: Why my cordless kettles stop creating contact after 1-2 years

I have had various models of cordless kettles over the years and they all seem to fail to make electrical contact with their base plate sometime in the 12-24 month range. For a period of time I am able to turn the kettle left or right and create a contact, but this becomes more intermittent over the space of a month or two until it stops working at all. As far as I can tell, both the controls and the heating elements are still functioning correctly - it is just that the contact between kettle and base fails. I have tried using emery paper to shine the contact points but neither kettle or base plate looks corroded. Current and past model giving problems are Breville variable temp models

Tea Kettle: Breville Smart Kettle Malfunctioning not working?

I did not know where to post this possible fix so I am posting here. Please move it to where it belongs:

Issue: Breville Smart Kettle malfunctions, turns on and off randomly, buttons won’t work, after being plugged in the “Start/Cancel” button lights up and then turns off and none of the buttons function. When left plugged in it randomly beeps, turns itself on and off. Works when it wants to. Basically, the kettle is possessed.

Possible solution: I tried this today in the morning and the machine is now working properly. I don’t remember the exact sequence because I was just messing around with it (BTW, I took it apart about a week ago, checked all the components and for lose wires but everything seemed fine (not an electrician either)).

This morning I unplugged the little monster, I placed my finger on the “Start/Cancel” button and plugged it back in. I held my finger on the button without moving it for about 10 seconds or so and then its light started flashing on and off. Ok, what happens after this is more blurry. I believe I then did the same thing with the first button (green tea), I don’t remember if I was still holding the Start/Cancel or not (but it was still flashing), but I also held my finger or pressed on the green tea button for a few seconds and it started flashing too. I figured I must be onto something because how would the little monster know to flash like this? I started doing the same thing with all of the other buttons and had them all flashing on and off. I don’t remember if I did the same thing with the little red “keep warm” button but all of the others for sure.

After about 4 seconds since they were all flashing, I left it alone as I figured it was doing something so I walked away to make my breakfast. Lo and behold about 15 seconds later all the blinking buttons turned off and it made a sound like it was just plugged in, leaving only the first button on or the start button (not sure). I then proceeded to heat up some water to check if it worked and it did. The buttons are still working properly now (about 10 hours later). So it seems that this might have “reset” the machine somehow which is odd because the manual does not have a reset sequence.

Anyway, hope this helps.
