I snagged my headset cable and almost tripped over it, the cable is fine, other then the usb broke in my pc at 90 degree angle, it worked for a while and then it eventually stopped, is it hard to replace the USB would a regular usb replacment work or do I need a special one?

I have Steelseries Arctis 5 and the dial cable top layer insulation is corroded. Any tips on how to elegantly repair/restore it other then drown it in the electrical tape?
