Starbucks Barista: No water out of the brew head

I have descaled 2x, and cleaned the brew head and portofilter screens, but water no longer comes down thru the brewhead. Water comes out of the steam wand, and steam comes out of the wand too. No problems there. I think what is happening is that the pump is not engaging. I don't hear that customary kick in sound I usually hear when the pump goes on. What do you think my problem is? Is this something I can fix myself? Thanks for your help. I really like this machine!

Starbucks Barista: Steam wand leaking, no water from brew head, odd brew button behavior

I picked up a secondhand machine that I'm trying to get working again, but I'm having some issues. Initially, the steam wand worked fine but nothing came out of the brew head so I did a full disassembly and cleaned everything, including soaking parts in citric acid to remove calcium buildup (there was a lot). When I reassembled everything and ran the machine, I noticed the steam wand began leaking as the machine heated up, until the ready light came on then it stopped. When I pressed the coffee button, however, water came out of the steam wand instead of the brew head, as if I had activated the steam wand despite the knob being in the off position. I ran a cycle of Dezcal, thinking there might still be some buildup preventing water from flowing to the brew head, but nothing changed.

After reading some answers to other questions here, it seems like my problem is that the steam wand leaking is preventing enough pressure to activate the mechanism that allows water to flow through the brew head. I've taken out the little hex screw and tightened the knob as much as possible but that didn't fix the issue either. Is there something else that might be causing the steam wand to leak? I'm also concerned about the coffee button behavior; is that just a result of the steam wand issue or is something else wrong?

Starbucks Barista: Pump seems to be working, but no shot coming through portafilter.

We've had our Starbucks Barista for years and have used it regularly. Awesome machine. Recently though, we can't get a shot to pull. The pump sounds normal, so, we hear the pump push water into the portafilter, but then, the "swoosh" sound of when the pressure pushes the shot out never comes. Sometimes, water leaks around the portafilter, but most of the time, nothing comes out. When I release the portafilter, it either splats everywhere, but most of the time it is just water and grounds, or just wet grounds. I cleaned the portafilter as recommended on your site and reassembled, but this did not help. I also descaled the machine, and when I did this, I pulled a lot of water & solution through both the wand and the shower head, so I think the pump is ok. But, this did not help either. Any ideas?

Starbucks Barista: Pump works, briefly, then gets quieter, doesn't pump

When I start to pull a shot, everything sounds normal, works normally. Then the pump gets very quiet and stops pushing water through the coffee. To me it seems as if a valve gets shut, but the pump is still trying to pump. If I turn it off, then on again, it works briefly, then gets backed up (or loses pressure?) again.

It works fine without the Portafilter in place. It works with an empty PF - but it leaks out the top so much that the pump isn't really being challenged.

All screens are clean, and I've tried single shot pods (my norm) and double shot with Starbucks ground espresso, loosely tamped.

Thanks for your help!!

Starbucks Barista: How to install a PID XMT-7100 and SSR unit to Saeco Via Venezia

The only guide I found is that one. But I have a Via Venezia.

But I still cannot figure out how to connect SSR and PID controller to power.

Also what should I do with disconnected brew thermostat cables?

Edit. I managed to connect it.

The brew sensor cables goes to 1&2 on SSR unit (no polarity)

You will need 2 piggy back connectors and deatach first power on button and then them add 2 cables to 1&2 on Pid unit. (make sure line black cable goes to 1+ positive terminal and grey to - )

Starbucks Barista: Why does water/coffee overflow my filter handle

The Starbucks Barista machine overflows the Rapporto filter handle. I have cleaned it ensuring the pin and spring assemblies are as before. Cleaned the flat screen, removed it and removed the gasket, cleaned and replaced each of those. The gasket was still very pliable and screen holes were clear. The handle feels like it seats firmly in the ramps and contacts the gasket. Stilll water flows over the filter - and out the coffee hole when pressure builds up. Any thoughts?

Starbucks Barista: Pump or mushrooom valve issue?

I am now tasked with repairing a Starbuck Barista (or Saeco SIN006, same parts different colors). The owner had it for the past 20-something years, and, not knowing anything about espresso machines, had the pump replaced about 2011. I recently thought it would be a good idea to clean the somewhat clogged up portafilter, so I used the appropriate cleaner (caution: this is not a descaler) as I didn't want to use vinegar or CLR and its everlasting smell. So the good news is the portafilter and shower screen are now completely clean. The bad news is the issue I was trying to get rid of didn't go away.

First symptom

Whenever I close the portafilter against the running pump, the pump noise slowly dies out as pressure builds up (normal, as it is a pressurized portafilter).

Keeping the portafilter closed still allows some water to drip, whereas it should be fully watertight (or so I understood)

Second symptom

When I open the portafilter again, water should come out easily and the pump noise should increase as pressure in the boiler decreases.

However, this isn't the case: I only get a few drops (the content of the portafilter, basically), but the pump is still humming slowly and doesn't provide any additional pressure.

What I already tried:

Just after reopening the portafilter, turning the pump off for a few seconds to a minute (highly variable) will usually allow a steady stream of water to come through the portafilter. By doing so, I assume I the pressure inside the boiler diminishes.

Removed shower screen just in case = no effect, same symptoms

Removed portafilter after pump has slowed down to a low huming noise. (WARNING: before anyone says so, yes, I know this is DANGEROUS should there be any pressure build-up in the portafilter. That's why I did so behind a wet towel to avoid any splashes. However, from symptom #2, I knew there wasn't any pressure. If unsure, <ins>don't do it</ins>) = suprisingly, no effect either!

At this step, the only obstacle on the pressurized water path should be the mushroom valve.

I also tried to remove the mushroom valve from the boiler, but years of lime build-up took their toll and I couldn't do it and just bent the tool. I didn't want to use WD-40 for obvious reasons.

Dismantling the pump, just because. Here are some pictures:

*

Inlet plastic tube is reasonably clean. Rust marks are actually on the outside. Plunger is a bit loose in the tube.

*

Plunger O-ring isn't as tight as video tutorials on ULKA pump show it to be, but snug enough it doesn't slide off by itself.

*

Plunger plastic ball appears to sit properly on the thin end of the plunger.

*

High pressure side has a bit of scale build-up, but nothing out of the ordinary

What I can't try

Logic would require one to use a manometer to know the pressure provided my the pump. However, I have no such instrument.

I made a short video describing the issue. In this video, shower screen has been removed and there's obviously no coffee in the portafilter.

0 to 11": pump noise dies down as pressure builds up against closed portafilter.

18 to 27": I open the portafilter, very small amounts of water comes out, pump noise doesn't resume.

27" to 35": I repeat the manoeuver, to no avail.

36": pump is turned off, portafilter is open.

48": pump is turned back on, water flows through portafilter.

1': portafilter is closed against running pump

1'10": portafilter is opened again, no flow.

1'17": pump turned off

1'24": portafilter still open, pump turned back on twice, no flow.

1'34": portafilter open, pump turned back on after a few seconds off-time, correct flow.

*

What is the problem with this machine?

Actualización (07/04/23)

Update: I ran a cycle of descaling using the recommended instructions / ingredients (100ml lactic acid in 1 l of water). I unplugged the heater element so as not to waste electricity. Water came out milk-ish white. I am now in the rinse cycle.

However, a two new issues appeared:

when I close the portafilter, the pump never stops. It doesn't even slow down, and water is leaking from the top of the portafilter.

The portafilter itself developped rust under the basket for some unknown reason

I can't even check that the original problem disappeared!

ideas?

Starbucks Barista: Brew Screen / Boiler Valve Issues-- what to do when its' stuck?

Recently the brew screen (screen attached to the bottom of the boiler unit screwed into the mushroom boiler valve) ended up in my portafilter. I thought, "no biggie-- just screw it back in." Well, that isn't working-- screw has somehow become too short (though it doesn't appear to be stripped or broken). Ideas? Here are mine, would love some feedback.

1. Maybe it IS slightly stripped and not catching.

2. Maybe there is an issue with my mushroom boiler valve-- went up into the machine?

2a. I cannot unscrew my mushroom boiler valve for the life of me-- tried many different times with various tools.

Have a problem that is occurring with increasing frequency. After I attach the portafilter to the brewhead and push the brew button (after the green light comes on) the filter and handle rotate slowly to the left and eventually the filter loosens enough that the seal to the brewhead is lost and coffee, grounds, etc. start to leak out the top of the portafilter. I am attaching the filter very firmly but that does not seem to help. I have cleaned the screens and gasket, etc....all looks to be in good order, the gasket is complete and not hardened.
