Sony Xperia Z5: Is this phone worth repairing?

Hi

I have a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium that died on me a few months ago. I was planning on keeping the phone and going on a sim only when my contract renews in June. Reason being, phones haven't progressed enough past this stage for me to warrant an upgrade.

However, the phone decided to turn itself off and upon turning it back on it stayed on for 10, 20, 30 seconds or so and then turned itself off again. This continuously happened. I managed to do a factory reset in the time it stayed on (plugged in but this didn't always help). The factory reset made no difference.

My theory is one of two possible causes;

1) It's shutting down due to overheating. It gets warm where the processor is, nothing new for this phone and not as hot as it gets when running something processor heavy. possibly just start up warmth.

2) The battery is knackered. It's been replaced once before but I can't remember why I had to do this.

Also, the rubbery compound found on the copper pipes underneath the processor is just that, rubbery. Should this be more like a paste?

Really don't fancy wasting money on parts if it won't fix my phone.

Any help, much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dean

Sony Xperia Z5: Proximity sensor wonkey..easy fix?

I've got the famous going black z5 phone on phone calls problem. I am pretty sure it's the proximity sensor distance from the glass. As I can press the corner to make it almost work properly. My questions are where is the sensor and is it separate from everything else? My guess was is on the motherboard possibly? If so how do I change it's position? Is this an easyish fix or am I going to have soon big problems? I've looked at the heating process and a few other bits but I've only changed a few iphone screens and parts so far. I have a ifixit gel pack but maybe it's not the best for this? Maybe hairdryer? Will I have to remove the battery as well? Anyway thanks for any help!

Update (02/24/2017)

Ah no... thanks I tried that earlier as well as now but again I have to squeeze the corner to get it to stop being black :s or wait I guess... I think I have finally located the sensor!

Sony Xperia Z5: My phone won't charge.

My phone was working fine this morning but when I plugged it in to charge (It was around 10~15% battery) It would detect the USB cable but it wouldn't charge. It would vibrate and the "low battery" notification would disappear but it won't charge. So I turned it off and left it plugged in to charge.

Things I've done:

[Power button + volume up]

- vibrates 3 times

- red light (turned blue the first few times)

- shows SONY XPERIA white screen

- shows battery screen + charging sign on top of the battery thing but it doesn't charge, no battery percentage shown

[Yellow button + removed SIM card and memory card]

- red light

- shows SONY XPERIA white screen

- shows battery screen, no charging sign but battery percentage is shown (0%), not charging

- no light while plugged in

now..

- red light

- SONY XPERIA white screen

- no light

- red light

- battery screen + charging sign, no battery percentage, not charging/battery not filling up

- screen goes blank, no light

- this keeps repeating while the phone's plugged in

Sony Xperia Z5: Sometimes device does not detect fingerprint hardware

I have fingerprint unlocking activated on my Sony Xperia z5, but sometimes when I press the power button and place my finger there, it shows on the screen "fingerprint hardware not detected". Sometimes It fixes after I spam the power button a few times. Other times that doesn't work , so I try to restart the phone and when the phone boots up, the fingerprint option in the security menu completely disappears! And obviously I can't use my fingerprint to unlock the phone anymore, till I restart the phone again to get it working, but sometimes the "fingerprint hardware not detected" thingy would still pop up. Is this really a hardware issue or is this just a software bug? And is there an actual way to fix this easily? Thanks for reading this and please reply :D

Sony Xperia Z5: Display shows only backlight but no screen after replacement

Hi,

my phone dropped and the glas broke so also the touch didnt work anymore properly. I bought an replacement screen on aliexpress.com and built it in and the screen shows only at the beginning green lines and then a blank screen, only backlight. After a few seconds the red light starts to blink 3 times and the phone restarts with the same procedure.

I tried to switch then my broke screen to test it but while i have dissassembled it there are a lot of glass pieces got away from it so i think the original screen also dont work. But what could it be that the new screen does not work? Because the seller guarantees me that its tested and worked before it was shipped.

Anyone had the same problem after the screen replacement?

Hi Everyone,

Suddenly, I noticed that the phone’s screen became very dark. I needed to put the phone near by a bulb light to be able to see what is on the screen as this made the phone increase the light of the screen. At the same time the phone was very hot although it was not charging (not connected to a charger). I tried to reset the phone however, I noticed that the phone is heating more so I opened the phones cover and disconnected the phone’s battery. I waited few minutes until the phone cooled down then I connected the battery. at this point something started to burn inside the phone. some smoke came from under the metal plate where the red arrow is pointing to in the uploaded photo.
