Sony SRS-X3: The Unit does not turn on .. even after the battery is changed. Help!

I have SRS x3.. that fails to power up. I have changed the battery. It charges for hours. Turns on for a minute and then turns off again. I have plugged in hours thinking the battery failed to charge, but continues to do the same thing I dont know why this is acting up strangely.
