Sony Laptop: What can I do to check for water damaged parts on Sony Vaio laptop?

My friends roof leaked onto the back of the Sony Vaio PCG-7133L for about three to four hours, there was only one drop every five minutes.

The Vaio was turned on while the water was being dropped onto it, that day I sprayed it with comp cleaner after being advised to do so, then placed it in rice for about 8hrs.

I know there has to be water damage. What I don't know is what are the signs of water damage, I will post pictures after I know what to look for if that will help.

So I acquired this laptop, which apparently wasn't booting. I've tried seemingly every part removal configuration, yet it does not want to post. I've tried leaving it there for up to 30 minutes along with some battery off button stuff. It seems as if the laptop is done for. But, I reapplied the thermal paste and it stayed on for much longer, yet failed to function. What else can I do?

Sony Laptop: My laptop does not power on unless I remove or re-insert RAM stick

Hi,

After accidentally breaking the built-in screen, I had to open my Vaio laptop to disconnect it and be able to get to the BIOS on an external monitor (I wanted to install Ubuntu). Since then, the laptop won't power on unless I a) remove one of the 2 RAM memory sticks or b) re-insert the previously removed stick. This means that every time I want to use my laptop now I have to remove or re-insert a RAM memory stick.

I bought new sticks but the problem persists.

These are my laptop specs:

Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz

1 physical processor; 2 cores; 4 threads

RAM: 8118968

Motherboard: C107KA39/ VAIO (Sony Corporation)

Graphics: 1920/1080

(Unknown)

The X.Org Foundation

Storage: ATA WDC WD7500BPVT-5

MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8C0

Audio: HDA-Intel HDA ATI DHMI

Any idea of what's going on?

Thanks in advance!

Sony Laptop: HDD device not found.

I have an old laptop where I have precious files. I was using it one day, and it suddenly froze and got the BSOD, so I tried resetting it. Then when I booted it up again, the screen says Boot Device Not Found.

I opened the laptop and checked hardware connections, maybe the HDD connection got loose. I reconnected the HDD and turned on the laptop again, the HDD started making noises. I'm afraid that the HDD is gone already, and so are my files. I don't know if my system has backed up my files before it happened. I hope you can help me. Thank you.

I recently acquired an old Sony Vaio PCG-993L laptop, but when I went to test it out, it shows absolutely no signs of life. I have checked that the power adapter works. Are there any common issues with this laptop not turning on, or what could this problem be? Additionally, I have included some photos of the top of the motherboard.

Sony VAIO VGN-S260: laptop wont charge or power on. power polarity issue?

laptop not used for 6 mo to a year. cant find power adapter ordered new one. used universal adapter plugged into car lighter socket did not notice any charging lights come on or any sounds smells etc but realized that I may have reversed the polarity on the charger tip.

so until I receive power adapter have no way to charge battery or run computer without battery because the universal power is not charging or powering laptop. so not sure new power adapter will work either.

is it possible that by reversing the polarity and pushing the power on button that I damaged the power system and if so what is the most likely damage and is it repairable by me? and regardless of the battery possibly being unchargeable shouldn't lights indicating charging or connected to power be coming on.

I have read elsewhere about similar problems of not powering on and resetting the laptop but those questions and answers did not include someone reversing the polarity on the power adapter.
