Sony CyberShot DSC-RX100 III: Camera turns on by itself when the closed EVF gets pushed down

The camera is fully operational except it sometimes turns on and off by itself, causing the battery to drain in my bag as it continuously tries to open the lens.
I have found that it is usually caused when the closed EVF gets pressed, however it also turns on when it gets shuffled around too much even though the EVF is protected.

Sony CyberShot DSC-RX100 III: RX100 III jumpy mode dial

The mode dial on the right-hand side is very sensitive; even a slight touch causes it to switch to a different mode.

This is particularly annoying when recording for an extended period.

Is there an easy way to fix it?
