Worried because now the picture is just "stuck" on my camera :( Help.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55: My Lens does not focus.

My son dropped my DSC-W55 and now while focussing, I can see blurred images. But if I gently push the lens from outside, I can focus clearly. But if I try autofocus, then due to the lens movement, the lens defocuses again. I need to repeat the 'Push' action every time I need to click a picture. Can someone Help me get it resolved? I took it to the Repair centre, they wanted me to change the entire Lens unit, but I believe there should be some fix, other than replacing the unit. THANKS !!

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55: My shutter release button exploded.

My shutter release button exploded on my out of warranty camera. I was just depressing it while taking a photo. It seems that this is a common problem with these shutters, and I've noticed that they changed the shutter from these round versions to the slim narrow ones in the W120. Anyways, the button and the spring has come out. The button has a narrow pin that connects to the center, and this broke off. The end of the end of the pin that came off the button is still stuck there and I can put the button on and make the camera work, but it doesn't stay on. I've noticed ebay sellers that sell the button and spring for only $4. How would I remove the end of this pin and put a new button on?

Fixed. Used the level 2 service manual (free download) to dissemble the camera. Really bad design. Had to remove side, front, back plates, then LCD, then back electronics PCB and then remove the top block. Initially I got a $4 shutter button and spring from ebay, but it is impossible to attach to the broken block. It's one unit. Ordered the entire top block on ebay for $10. Then put back everything.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55: My camera does not focus

My camera does not focus. When I try to take a picture, things look very blur on the LCD screen. I cleaned the lens; however, that did not fix the problem. Interestingly, it appears that only when trying to take a picture of an object that is located very close to the lens, it will focus. Otherwise, it does not. It was working before, and I wonder what the cause is. Does anyone have an idea on what is going on? Thank you.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55: Lens will not focus, it's not dirty

My sony w55 7.2 doesn't focus. i bought this off ebay to replace the original one i had previous that fell and now won't turn on and the lens is stuck in midrange. My new one that I am having trouble with right now is the one having capture issues. It picks and chooses when it wants to focus on an object/person in frame.

When pointing the camera at an object or a person it will not show a focused version on the screen. I thought initially it was because of sun exposure but it happens at night too. It doesn't focus on people and then randomly focuses. Distance is not a factor here because it displays a blurry image too when I am up close.

The camera was not having this issue when i bought it off ebay and it has not fallen.

What is it and how do I fix it without re-buying the entire camera again. (I still have the other broken one as well if there is an option to merge the two cameras!)

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55: Screen says Access then Turn off and on again

Is there a way to get past the screen that says the word Access when I turn it on? The light beside the view finder is flashing yellow. The lens extends and retracts multiple times before it shuts off automatically or the screen changes to say Turn off and back on. It's been stored for some time in a zip lock bag but the battery pack charges fine and on the first start up I was able to set the date etc. This problem started the first time I restarted it after date time step.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55: Instructions needed to be updated for fixing LCD Screen

The instructions need to be made clear before anyone else attempts to replace their LCD screen. The update needs to state the replacement part is an LCD screen with attached Chip Board. It needs to be stated in at least three locations before someone else attempts this.

It should probably also need to include in the parts section, a very strong magnifying viewer.

The instructions make it appear that only the LCD screen is needed but that is NOT the case. It is soldered to a Chip Board and they don't appear to be sold this way any more. I could only find the LCD Screen, which I promptly purchased and then started following the instructions until I got to the last step....surprise!!

I am going to attempt to solder the ribbon on the replacement LCD screen to the Chip Board and hope that I can get that done or else I have a new paperweight.

Thanks!

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55: Cybershot E91:01 Flash problem

I got this camera with a broken screen and a stuck lens. I replaced both with working parts and reassembled everything. The camera can take photos, but the flash doesn’t work.

When I half-press the shutter button, the flash indicator blinks for a while, then an E:91:01 error appears and the camera takes the photo without using the flash.

I replaced the entire flash assembly, but that didn’t fix the issue. I also tried replacing the main motherboard, the flex cable, and even the whole casing. I’ve practically replaced almost the entire camera, but the problem is still there.

I also tested it with another flash assembly that I know works. When I inserted the battery and turned the camera on, the flash fired once by itself on the date/time setup screen, without pressing the shutter. After that, it didn’t fire again.

Does anyone have any ideas what I should check next?
