I'm sorry the question says CFD-8, but the site doesn't have the 510 in its database.

I've been trying to fix an old CFD-510 Sony Boombox I found a while ago, everything else works pretty great, but the cassette deck needs a new belt. This is easier said than done, as the idiot who had it before me sealed the access points with a resin. After a LOT of rubbing alcohol later, I can peel back the access point, but there are things in the way, and I can't figure out how to put the belt in. Would anyone here have any idea on how to help?

I am now stuck on a sound quality issue along with the volume meter problem. I only listened to it for half a song before the belt snapped initially, so I don't know if it's my tinkering or a consequence of the Potentiometer. I've cleaned the head, pinch wheel and capstan system, but not demagnetized yet, though I doubt this is the issue.

The potentiometer is spinning round and round instead of the set limit it's supposed to have, and clicks on or off jumping to random volumes and channels. What is it's part number? does any one have the Manual for the WM-4? Would it be worth finding and using contact cleaner on it?

I would love any advice you have. Regards

Recently acquired a silver Sony Walkman WM-4. Installed new batteries, new belts and lubed gears. When pushing play sometimes it it will start and sometimes not. With the back off I can rotate the silver metal gear by hand and it will eventually begin to work. When it does come on the sound through the headphones sounds like your underwater. I can't seem to find any information showing where to adjust the speed on this model.

Sony CFS-W338 Stereo Boombox with dual cassette decks and RADIO. Remember the radio works fine and can be heard thru the built in speakers fine. The deck has 2 heads and the cassettes move FWD, REV, and PAUSE. Wearing headphones makes no difference either. If the unit were a bit more sophisticated and had VU meters bobbing to and fro that would help give a positive clue that the units decks are not dead... I'm no expert, but it seems logical. I hope I've given enough info to help the diagnosis.

You asked for the model number. Here it is a Sony CFS-W338 Stereo Boombox 2 head recording deck. Remember the radio works fine thru the built in speakers. Both he cassettes respond to the buttons pushed (FAST FWD, PLAY, Pause etc) they just put out no sound. VU meters would have been nice. Headphones make no difference either in the sound for the decks, but the radio they do fine. I hope that helps some. Yes I've cleaned the heads. as I said last time I played with it the decks worked fine making the right sound when played.

currently my cassette player plays cassettes, but the eject function no longer works. A spring popped off, and I'm not sure where it goes. The door for the player no longer opens when the eject button is pressed.

Since the eject button no longer works, I cannot put a cassette in without having to press down a plastic piece that is stuck in the down position.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, its mostly a mechanical problem.
