Sony TCM-919 Cassette-Corder: Cassette player does not turn

The unit is actually a tcm 450 but the particular model was not present on the selection list. I found it in my grandma’s drawer along with a bunch of tapes, and I’m pretty sure it worked a year ago or so. when I shoved a tape in with aaa batteries, nothing happened. I removed the tape to see if the knob thing inside was turning, and it didn’t. Ibplayed with the volume knob and all the buttons, but it was failing to work. I can feel that the cassette player is trying to make it rotate— I can feel it when I touch it with my finger while pressing the ‘play’ button, but yet, nothing is happening. Plz Help!

Sony CFD-8: CFD-510 Cassette belt repair help

Hello!

I'm sorry the question says CFD-8, but the site doesn't have the 510 in its database.

I've been trying to fix an old CFD-510 Sony Boombox I found a while ago, everything else works pretty great, but the cassette deck needs a new belt. This is easier said than done, as the idiot who had it before me sealed the access points with a resin. After a LOT of rubbing alcohol later, I can peel back the access point, but there are things in the way, and I can't figure out how to put the belt in. Would anyone here have any idea on how to help?

Sony walkman wm-4: Sound Checks on Walkman WM-4

I've got myself a WM-4 from ebay, in more or less alright nick. Opening it up to check an issue with it's potentiometer a belt snapped. I've now replaced both belts with new ones, and had a quick look at the potentiometer problem.

I am now stuck on a sound quality issue along with the volume meter problem. I only listened to it for half a song before the belt snapped initially, so I don't know if it's my tinkering or a consequence of the Potentiometer. I've cleaned the head, pinch wheel and capstan system, but not demagnetized yet, though I doubt this is the issue.

The potentiometer is spinning round and round instead of the set limit it's supposed to have, and clicks on or off jumping to random volumes and channels. What is it's part number? does any one have the Manual for the WM-4? Would it be worth finding and using contact cleaner on it?

I would love any advice you have. Regards

Sony walkman wm-4: Intermittent starting & slow playback question

Hi all.

Recently acquired a silver Sony Walkman WM-4. Installed new batteries, new belts and lubed gears. When pushing play sometimes it it will start and sometimes not. With the back off I can rotate the silver metal gear by hand and it will eventually begin to work. When it does come on the sound through the headphones sounds like your underwater. I can't seem to find any information showing where to adjust the speed on this model.

Sony CFD-8: Why won't my cassettes play sound in my am/fm dual cassette boombox

I have a Vintage Sony brand AM/FM stereo dual cassette boom box with antenna. The Radio works great. Both cassette players move in accordance to the button pushed. But I am not getting any sound when I try to play cassettes in either side. They worked fine last time I used it to record a song off the radio like 6 months ago. I've always just used the AC power cord but the unit does take 6 D batteries. I personally have never even used the battery only feature but I could buy some if you think that might make a difference. I fooled around looking for a switch or button or anything on the device that might be preventing the sound when playing cassettes. Otherwise the Radio plays fine. I got the manual online too but it offers no help with my problem and my issue isn't in the troubleshooting page.

Update (04/05/23)

Sony CFS-W338 Stereo Boombox with dual cassette decks and RADIO. Remember the radio works fine and can be heard thru the built in speakers fine. The deck has 2 heads and the cassettes move FWD, REV, and PAUSE. Wearing headphones makes no difference either. If the unit were a bit more sophisticated and had VU meters bobbing to and fro that would help give a positive clue that the units decks are not dead... I'm no expert, but it seems logical. I hope I've given enough info to help the diagnosis.

Update (04/05/23)

You asked for the model number. Remember the radio works fine thru the built in speakers. Both he cassettes respond to the buttons pushed (FAST FWD, PLAY, Pause etc) they just put out no sound. VU meters would have been nice. Headphones make no difference either in the sound for the decks, but the radio they do fine. I hope that helps some. Yes I've cleaned the heads. as I said last time I played with it the decks worked fine making the right sound when played.

Sony walkman wm-4: Tape won't spin. Please help!

I purchased this Walkman off of eBay recently, and in the description it claimed that the Walkman wouldn't work with batteries, but instead would work while plugged in. When I received it, I tried batteries and the indicator light turned on and it sounds like the belt is spinning inside of it but the tape that I'm using (good condition) isn't playing. I noticed the little nubs inside of it aren't rotating. The belt itself is something I looked at and it looks a tiny bit stretched so I ordered some new ones and they arrive tomorrow, but I was curious if it isn't the belt at all and instead is another problem. Can anyone help? This is my first time doing this sort of thing and I was super excited about trying a Walkman out for the first time.
